  1. أخرجت أرض خجند صانعا

    نال في التشييد صيتا ذائعا

    The land of Khujand brought forth a builder

    Who gained widespread fame in construction

  2. صانعا فرهاد حقا ولدا

    لمراد مسجدا قد شيدا

    Truly, Farhad was born a builder

    To erect a mosque for Murad

  3. غضب السلطان من تقصيره

    لم ير الإتقان في تعميره

    The sultan grew angry at his negligence

    He saw no excellence in its construction

  4. قدحت عين المليك الشررا

    ويد المسكين فورا بترا

    The king's eyes sparked embers

    And the poor man's hand was promptly severed

  5. سار للقاضي حزينا يجأر

    دمه من يده ينهمر

    He went to the judge, moaning and writhing

    His blood pouring from his hand

  6. قال يا من قوله الحق المبين

    يا حفيظا شرع خير المرسلين

    He said, "O you whose word is the clear truth

    O guardian of the law of the best of messengers

  7. لست للسلطان عبدا فاسمع

    حكم القرآن فينا واقطع

    I am no slave to the sultan, so listen

    To the judgment of the Quran concerning us and decide"

  8. قرع الحاكم سن المبلس

    ودعا السلطان نحو المجلس

    The judge knocked on the council hall

    And summoned the sultan to the gathering

  9. فأتى السلطان يخشى ذنبه

    هيبة القرآن تدمى قلبه

    So the sultan came, fearing his sin

    The awe of the Quran softening his heart

  10. عينه من خجل للقدم

    وعلى خديه لون الندم

    His eyes were downcast from shame

    And regret colored his cheeks

  11. وقف الخصمان خصم يشتكى

    وخصيم في ثياب الملك

    The two opponents stood, one complaining

    The other in the garb of the king

  12. جهر السلطان إني نادم

    لا أرد الحق إني جارم

    The sultan declared, "I regret this

    I do not deny right, I have transgressed"

  13. وتلا القاضي حياة في القصاص

    ذاك قانون حياة لا مناص

    And the judge recited, "Equity is in retribution"

    That is the law of life, there is no alternative

  14. ليس دون الحر عبد مسلم

    وحد المعمار والملك دم

    A free man is not like a slave, Muslim

    The architect and king's blood is equal

  15. سمع القرآن يملي حكمه

    فنضا السلطان فورا كمه

    He heard the Quran dictate its ruling

    So the sultan immediately rolled up his sleeve

  16. إذا رأى الخصم الذي قد فعلا

    آية الإحسان والعدل تلا

    When the opponent saw what had happened

    He recited the verse of kindness and justice

  17. قائلا لله أعفو وكفى

    إنني أعفو لأجل المصطفى

    Saying, "God, I pardon and that is enough

    I pardon for the sake of the Chosen One"

  18. نملة عزت سليمان القوى

    انظرن سطوة قانون النبي

    An ant overpowered mighty Solomon
