1. أمة خلت يداها السننا

    ككثيب من رمال وهنا

    A nation whose hands traditions have passed

    Like a sand dune here and there

  2. سيرة المسلم شرع وكفى

    ذلكم باطن دين المصطفى

    The conduct of a Muslim, law is enough

    That is the essence of the religion of the Chosen One

  3. بانتظام الصوت تعلو النغمة

    وهي من دون نظام ضجة

    With the rhythm the melody rises

    And without rhythm it is mere clamor

  4. إنما في الحلق موج من هواء

    يلعق النظم به فهو غناء

    In the throat it is but a wave of air

    Rhythm makes it into song

  5. صاح هل تعلم ما سنتكا

    أي سر ضمنت قدرتكا

    Speak - do you know what your tradition is

    What secret is encoded in your power?

  6. الكتاب الحي والذكر الحكيم

    حكمة في الدهر تبقى لا تريم

    The Living Book and the Wise Remembrance

    Wisdom in life that remains unfailing

  7. إن فيه سر تكوين الحياه

    يستمد النكس أيدا من قواه

    In it is the secret of the origin of life

    The downtrodden gain strength from its power

  8. لفظه لا ريب أو تبديل فيه

    آيه لا لبس أو تأويل فيه

    Its wording, no doubt or alteration in it

    A verse, no ambiguity or interpretation in it

  9. قوة فيه تشد الخورا

    وبها يرمي الزجاج الحجرا

    Power in it that shakes the mountains

    And with it the glass throws rocks

  10. قطع الأشراك عن صيد كسير

    فدعا الصياد منه بالثبور

    Cutting off the associations from helpless prey

    So the hunter prays to be rid of it

  11. ذا بلاع آخر للمرسلين

    قد تلاه رحمة للعالمين

    This is the last of the Messengers

    Sent down as a mercy to the worlds

  12. ترفع الخامل فيه رفعة

    وتقيم الرأس منه سجدة

    It elevates the stagnant to loftiness

    And makes the head bow down in prostration before it

  13. قاطعو الطرق هداة صيروا

    من كتاب كم كتاب سطروا

    The brigands have become guides

    From the Book how many books have been transcribed!

  14. والبوادي من سراج زهرا

    قد أضاءوا بالعلوم الفكرا

    The nomads, from the lamp flowers

    Have been enlightened in thought

  15. الذي يصدع منه الجبل

    وعلى الأفلاك منه وجل

    That which splits the mountains asunder

    And the cosmos trembles before it

  16. ذلك الينبوع من آمالنا

    قد حواه الصدر من أطفالنا

    That spring is the source of our hopes

    Cradled in the chests of our children

  17. انظر الظمآن في حر القفار

    عينه حمراء من وقد النهار

    Look at the thirsty in the heat of the desert

    His eyes red from the blaze of the day

  18. عنسه كالظبي في تعدائها

    دمها كالنار في رمضائها

    His breath like a frightened antelope

    His blood boiling in the noon sun

  19. طائف الصحراء يأبى الجدرا

    ضارب في البيد يقلي الحضرا

    Wandering the desert, refusing shelters

    Wandering in the waste, scorched

  20. خفقت في قلبه هذى السور

    فاستقر الموج فيه كالدرر

    These verses leapt in his heart

    And settled in it like pearls

  21. قرأ الدرس من الآي المبين

    فغدا بالحق حرا لا يمين

    He read the lesson of the clear verses

    And became in truth free, impartial

  22. حكم الدنيا جميعا عدله

    عرش جم وطئته رجله

    He judged the world completely justly

    His throne trampled under his feet

  23. مدنا قد شيدت هبوته

    ورياضا أنبتت زهرته

    Cities we built by his inspiration

    And gardens blossomed by his grace

  24. إن إيمانك في قيد الرسوم

    سنن الكفر لك السجن المقيم

    If your faith is bound by conventions

    The ways of blasphemy, your prison is waiting

  25. أمركم قطعتوا فهو زبر

    مسرعي السير إلى شيء نكر

    You broke the command so it is nonsense

    Hastening to an unknown thing

  26. سكر الصوفي من أحواله

    وانتشى باللحن من قواله

    The Sufi intoxicated by his states

    And delighted by the tunes of his words

  27. قلبه شعر العراقي تلا

    ومن القرآن أقوى وخلا

    His heart recited the verse of the Iraqi poet

    And with the Quran it grew stronger and pure

  28. تاجه والعرش صوف وحصير

    فقره يجبي رباطا للفقير

    His crown the heavenly throne, wool and mat

    His poverty collects a belt for the poor

  29. وأخو الوعظ جزافا قائل

    كلم عال ومعنى سافل

    And the preacher's brother rashly says

    Lofty words but lowly meanings

  30. قوله من ديلمى وخطيب

    فعله حلف ضغيف وغريب

    His words are from Dilmi and the preacher

    His actions an unfounded and bizarre oath

  31. لكتاب الله حق فاقرأن

    كل ما تبغيه منه فاطلبن

    The Book of God has a right so recite

    All that you seek from it so request
