Another story I tell you

The truth opens through it a door to you

He said to the diamond, coal of the mine

O ally of light, for ages to shine

We two are creations, one father bore us

Our origin in the universe is one source

On crowns you are the adornment

While I in dust have been condemned

You have beauty in mirrors that gleams

While I from a palmful of dirt it seems

From my darkness the embers lit up

And cinders concealed in the gem

Trodden underfoot among all of mankind

They cast in my core sparks unkind

My state calls for weeping, can't you see

My origin and end, can you see?

I'm a coil of smoke that condenses

All that sparks upward ascends

While in you is the elegance of stars

Each of your facets radiance bars

Once light in Caesar's eye as he gazed

Once an inset that daggers embellished

So listen my friend, and understand

The soil ripens till a gem it will stand

Waging around it war and bitterness

Growing hardened like stone in its steadfastness

My being from ripening shone into light

And from my heart how rays took flight

You from the weakness of your constitution decay

And with your fragile form you burn away

Forsake fear and sorrow, do not bend

Ripen like rock and diamond, my friend

Who strives and works hard night and day

Will like a full moon shine either way

And look to the Stone of the Kaaba, mere dirt before

Was lowly dust on the floor

It surmounted obstacles, rose high

And all nations come its kiss to try

The strength of the living brings honor and glory

While fading and shame comes from frailty so sorry
