إن خطمت الصعب قدت العالما
نافذ الأمر عليه حكما
If you dare the difficult, you lead the world,
With your command upon it as a ruler.
مشرقا في الأرض ما دار الفلك
فترى الملك الذي يخلد لك
A sunrise on earth wherever the orbit revolves,
So you see the king who is immortalized for you.
نائب الحق على الأرض سعيد
حكمه في الكون خلد لا يبيد
The deputy of truth on earth, prosperous,
His rule in the universe, immortal, everlasting.
هو بالجزء وبالكل خبير
وبأمر الله في الأرض أمير
He is aware of the part and the whole,
And by God's command a leader on earth.
في فسيح الأرض يمضي طاويا
عزمه هذا البساط الباليا
In the vast earth he travels folded,
His determination smoothes this worn carpet.
ينجلى من فكره مثل الزهر
غير هذا الكون أكوان أخر
From his thoughts blossoms like flowers,
Other than this universe, other universes.
ينضج الفكرة فينا بالضرم
يخرج الأصنام من بيت الحرم
The idea ripens in us firmly,
It brings out the idols from the Sacred House.
رن عود القلب من مضاربه
يقظ في الحق نومان به
The lute of the heart resonates from its plectrum,
Awakened by the truth from its slumber.
باعث في الشيب ألحان الشباب
ناشر في الكون ألوان الشباب
Inspiring in old age the tunes of youth,
Spreading in the universe the colors of youth.
هو في الناس بشير ونذير
وهو جندي وراع وأمير
He is to people both giver of good news and warner,
And he is soldier, shepherd, and prince.
مقصد من علم الأسما هوه
سر سبحان الذي أسرى هوه
The destination from the science of destiny is Him,
The secret of the Glorified One who ascended by night.
محضر من تحته طرف الزمان
حينما يمسك منه بالعنان
The presence from under whom is the edge of time,
When he seizes it by the rein.
يبعث الأرواح منه قول قم
وهي في أبدانها مثل الرمم
He sends spirits with the word “Rise!”
While they are in their bodies like rubble.
ذاته تتبع ذات العالم
سطوة فيه نجاة العالم
His essence follows the essence of the world,
His supremacy is the world's salvation.
يبعث الميت بإعجاز العمل
قيم الأعمال منه في بدل
He resurrects the dead with the miracle of deed,
The values of deeds come from Him in exchange.
سيره يحضر في بيدائه
كم كليم هام في سينائه
His conduct attends his first creation,
Like a Moses speaking on Mount Sinai.
جدد الدنيا بتفسير جديد
عبر الرؤيا بتعبير جديد
He renews the world with a new interpretation,
Explains the vision with a new elucidation.
كونه المكنون أسرار الحياه
نغمة يضمر مزمار الحياه
His essence is the hidden secrets of life,
A melody the flute of life implies.
شاعر الفطرة غني طبعه
ليقيم الوزن إذ أبدعه
The poet of instinct, his nature is rich,
To establish the rhythm when he created it.
نقعنا ثار إلى أوج السماء
فبدا الفارس من هذا الهباء
We rose in revolt to the summit of the sky,
So the knight appeared from this haze.
في رماد اليوم منا ترقد
شعلة يرمى بها الكون الغد
In the ashes of today, dormant within us,
Is a flame he casts at the universe of tomorrow.
روضة تضمرها أكمامنا
ضاء من صبح غد أبصارنا
A garden implied in our sleeves,
Illuminated by the dawn of tomorrow in our sights.
أنت يا فارس طرف الزمن
أنت يا نورا لعين الممكن
You, O knight, are the edge of time,
You, O light, to the eye of the potential.
موكب الإنشاء هيا زين
وتمكن في سواد الأعين
Procession of creation, decorate and empower
And settle the clamor of nations,
قم فسكن من ضجيج الأمم
واملأ الآذان زهر النغم
And fill the ears with the flower of melody.
Renew in people the law of brotherhood,
جددن في الناس قانون الإخاء
وأدرها كاس حب وصفاء
And make them drink a cup of love and purity.
Convey to the people messages of peace,
أبلغ الناس رسالات السلام
وأعد في الأرض أيام الوئام
And restore on earth the days of harmony.
Of the children of mankind, you are the hope,
من بني الإنسان أنت الأمل
أنت من ركب الحياة المنزل
You are the destination of the journey of life.
The hand of autumn has withered the trees,
أذبلت كف الخريف الشجرا
فاغد في الروض ربيعا نضرا
So come to the garden as a blossoming spring.
O brother of the rose, be a protective wall
يا أخا الوردة كن صنو الحجر
وكن السور لبستان الزهر
And be the fence for the garden of flowers.
Human molded from your soil,
آدميا صورن من تربكا
ثم شيد عالما بدعا لكا
Then built a world by praying to You.
If you were lowly dust,
أنت إن كنت ترابا هينا
فليصغ غيرك منك اللبنا
Then let others heed from you a lesson.
O you who cry out against the injustice of fate,
أيها الصارخ من جور الدهر
يا زجاجا يشتكى جور الحجر
O glass that complains of the stone’s tyranny!
Why this wailing, what is the occasion for grief
فيم هذا النوح ماذا المأتم
وإلام الصدر حزنا تلدم
And why is the breast bled with sorrow?
Implicit in the endeavor is the assuredness of life,
مضمر في السعي مضمون الحياه
لذة التخليق قانون الحياه
The pleasure of creation is the law of life.
Rise and build a peerless world,
قم فشيد عالما دون مثيل
وخض النار وأقدم كالخليل
Wade into the fire and advance like the Friend.
For the conduct upon the judgment of time
إنما السير على حكم الزمان
هو رمي الترس في وقت الطعان
Is to cast the shield at the time of spears.
The free, courageous, and prudent man
إنما الحر الشجاع الفطن
من قفا الآثار منه الزمن
Follows the footsteps of time upon him.
And if the world rebels against his affair,
وإذا الدنيا عتت عن أمره
حارب الدهر ولم يعبأ به
He battles fate and does not care for it.
He demolishes the existent for what he preferred,
يهدم الموجود فيما آثرا
يمنح الذرات شكلا آخرا
Grants the atoms another shape.
He diverts the days from their orbits,
يصرف الأيام عن كراتها
يمنع الأفلاك من دوراتها
Prevents the spheres from their rotations.
Creating from a power within his heart,
خالقا من قوة في قلبه
ذلك العصر الذي يرضي به
That is the age he accepts.
For when life is scarce for a man,
فإذا أعوز عيش الرجل
فالحياة الموت موت البطل
Death for the hero is the death of death.
Best is the passion for the noble affair,
حبذا عشق بغى الأمر الجليل
وجنى في النار وردا كالخليل
And to pick in the fire a rose like the Friend.
In the firmness of dilemmas appears
تتجلى في مراس المعضل
قوة كامنة ٌ في البطل
A latent power within the hero.
The tools of villains are but malice,
عدة الأنذال حقد لا سواه
استمع يا صاح ذا شرع الحياة
Listen, O passionate one, to the law of life!
Life is truth whose might appears,
الحياة الحق بأس يظهر
حب الاستيلاء فيه مضمر
Implicit in it is the love of domination.
Much forgiveness was of its detriments,
رب عفو كان من آفاتها
يكسر الموزون من أبياتها
Breaking the balanced of its verses.
Deeming resignation and humility to be contentment,
يحسب العجز قنوعا خانع
لصروف الدهر ذلا طائع
Submissive and obedient to the turns of fate.
Cutting off the paths of degraded life,
قاطع سبل الحياة الخور
قلبه خوفا وكذبا يضمر
His heart hiding fear and lies.
His heart empty of all good,
قلبه من كل خير فارغ
ليثه في كل خبث والغ
Plunged in every wickedness and mischief.
In ambush this vile one lurks,
في كمين راصد هذا اللئيم
فاحذرن يا صاحب العقل السليم
So beware, O sane one, of his adornment!
Beware, O passionate one, of his embellishment,
احذرن يا صاح من تزيينه
إنه الحرباء في تلوينه
He is a spindle in his coloring.
He hides the truth from the discerning,
إنه يخفي على أهل النظر
لبس الحق عليهم واستتر
Masking it from them and concealing himself.
Sometimes appearing in soft clothes,
في ثياب اللين حينا يظهر
وهو حينا في اتضاع يستر
Sometimes feigning humility and modesty.
Sometimes wearing clothes of compulsion,
وهو طورا في ثياب المجبر
وهو طورا في حجاب القدر
Sometimes behind the veil of destiny.
Sometimes in garb of luxury,
وهو حينا في لباس الترف
يلبس الصحة ثوب الدنف
Wearing health the clothes of feebleness.
Nothing but power is the pillar of truth,
ما سوى القوة للصدق دعم
اعرفن نفسك هذا جام جم
Know yourself, this is a full cup.
It is from the harvest of life what is obtained,
هي من حقل الحياة الحاصل
فسر الحق بها والباطل
Explain the truth and falsehood through it.
Its claim dispenses with argument,
مدعاه في غنى عن حجة
إن تحدى المدعي بالقوة
If the claimant challenges with might.
It makes falsehood into manifest truth,
تجعل الباطل حقا ماثلا
وهن الحق يحق الباطلا
And weakens truth to strengthen falsehood.
The tyranny of power adorns whatever it commands,
سطوة القوة تحلى ما أمر
إن تقل للخير شر فهو شر
If evil is attributed to good, it becomes evil.
O you heedless of what you carry,
أيها الغافل عما حملا
أنت في الكونين أعلى منزلا
You are in both worlds of the highest station.
