دعونا ولا تقربوا جمعنا

ولا تحرقونا بنيرانكم

Leave us be, do not come near our gathering,

And do not burn us with your fires,

رضينا بأنا عبيد الإمام

وإنا كما شاء عميٌ وصم

We are content being slaves of the imam,

And we are as blind and deaf as he desired.

نكبل أقدامنا بالقيود

ونعقل أفواهنا باللجم

We shackle our feet with chains,

And muzzle our mouths with gags,

ونفرش مضجعنا بالغباء

ونقنع من عيشنا بالحلم

We furnish our beds with ignorance,

And satisfy ourselves with dreams.

فماذا علينا لو أنا نعيش

أعمارنا في الدجى المدلهم

What does it matter if we live

Our lives in deep darkness?

وهبنا الحياة لأوثاننا

ونبض القلوب ونور البصر

We were given life for our idols,

The beats of hearts and light of sight.

فما نبتغيمن شعاع الشموس؟

وما نرتضي في ضياء القمر؟

What need have we for sunlight?

What do we want with moonlight?

وفي الحشرات.. لنا أسوة

تزهدنا في حياة البشر

In insects we find example,

Making us scorn the life of man.

وفي عالم الدود عيش هنيء

هبطنا إلى مستواه الأغر

In the world of worms there is pleasant living,

We have descended to their lowly level.

ولو نستطيع النزول البعيد

نزلنا لمستويات الحجر

If we could descend even lower

We would go down to the level of stone.

تريدون ويحكمو...أن نثور

وما نحن إلا كدود القبور

You want, oh fools, for us to rebel,

But we are like graveyard worms,

نعيش على جثث الهالكين

أمثالكم من هواة الشرور

We live on the corpses of the dead,

The likes of you, lovers of evil.

نمص دماء مغاويركم

ونسخر من ويلها والثبور

We suck the blood of your misguided ones,

And mock their anguish and regrets,

نعشش في هامة عششت

بها قبلنا كبرياء الغرور

We nest in the skull once inhabited

By the arrogance of the vainglorious.

سنرقب مصرع أبطالكم

طويلاً وإنا لشعب صبور

We will watch for long your heroes' deaths,

For we are a people of patience.
