وقفت وفي قلبي ضرام من الأسى

ودمعي من وجدٍ دماً يتحدر

I stood still, with grief raging in my heart,

And tears of passion streaming down my face.

أودع من أهوى وقد أزمع النوى

وكبدي قد كادت جوى تتفطر

I bid farewell to my love as she turned to leave,

My heart nearly shattering with sorrow.

فقلت حبيبي أي قصد نويته

فقد كنت من هذا وحقك أحذر

I said, "My darling, what is your intent?

I fear this course, I swear by our bond."

لحى الله يوم البين ماذا ألم بي

ولا فاز من عن حبه يتصبر

God spare me till we meet again from this agony -

No one gains from resisting love's pull.
