1. لقد الجأتني دائرات الدوائر

    إلى أرض أهل الهند أهل الذخائر

    The cycles of fate have led me

    To the land of India, home of treasures

  2. فلست ترى فيها معيناً على الهدى

    ولا آمراً فيها بفعل الأوامر

    Yet I find no guide here towards righteousness

    Nor one who commands good deeds

  3. وأهل الهوى واللهو في كلّ محفلٍ

    ترى الجهل منهم في ارتكاب المناكر

    The people here only care for passion and play

    In every gathering, you see them steeped in ignorance and sin

  4. ولا ناهياً عن منكر ورذالةٍ

    كما البهم تمشي حافراً بعد حافر

    None forbid what is forbidden or evil

    As they walk step by step in misguidance

  5. فما همّهم إلا الدراهم والغنى

    ولا شغلهم إلا حساب الدفاتر

    Their only concerns are riches and wealth

    Their days spent only counting ledgers

  6. فكنت بها في محنةٍ وكآبةٍ

    وفي ضيق أحوال وتنكيد خاطر

    I fell into hardship and grief here

    My state constricted and thoughts troubled

  7. وقعت بها بين الهنود محيرّاً

    ومفتكراً هل من أديب مسامر

    I found myself lost among the Indians

    Wondering if there was a conversational companion

  8. نظرت بها شخصاً محبّاً فدلّني

    على مجلس رحب كثير المفاخر

    I saw a friendly face who guided me

    To a spacious gathering place full of wonders

  9. دخلت إذا فيه رجال أئمةٍ

    وجوههم مثل النجوم الزواهر

    I entered to find men who were leaders

    Their faces shining bright like brilliant stars

  10. وبينهم شيخ مضيء موقّر

    مهاب مجاب بل عديم النظائر

    Among them an esteemed aged sheikh

    Revered, answered, truly without equal

  11. فزال به الهم الممضّ مع العنا

    ونلنا المنى من فيضه المتبادر

    With him my crushing worries and sorrow ceased

    Our wishes fulfilled from his overflowing spring

  12. وأعني به إبراهيم بن محمّد

    حميد السجايا بل جميل العناصر

    I speak of Ibrahim ibn Muhammad

    Praiseworthy in nature, beautiful in essence

  13. فللّه عضب أريحيّ مهذّب

    أديب لبيب خير ناهٍ وآمر

    By God, a gentle, refined, well-mannered man

    An elegant, judicious poet of virtue and command

  14. فصيح بليغ فاضل ذو سماحةٍ

    له كرم مثل الغيوم المواطر

    Eloquent, articulate, generous and kind

    With a bounty like pouring rainclouds

  15. فكم له من أيدٍ على كلِّ فاضلٍ

    وكم له من فضل على كل تاجر

    He aids every virtuous soul effortlessly

    And exceeds every merchant in nobility

  16. وكم من عليل قد أتى متطبباً

    فيشفى بإذن الله أعظم قادر

    Many a sick soul who came to him as patients

    Were cured, by the will of the Almighty, the Able

  17. فانعم به حاز الفضائل والعلى

    على غيره من كل ناء وحاضر

    He has attained merits and sublimity, exceeding

    All others of the past, present and timeless

  18. عليك به يا من يريد نجابةً

    فمغناه قد حلّته كل الأكابر

    Seek him, O you who desire deliverance

    For the great ones have all hailed his gifts

  19. فيا ربّ يا الله متّع به لأن

    ينالوا الورى من فضله المتكاثر

    O Lord, O God, let his blessings endure

    That people may gain from his multiplying grace

  20. وأعلِ لهُ في جنّة الخلد رتبةً

    مع الأنبياء أهل العلى والمفاخر

    Grant him in Heaven's eternal abode

    A station with the Prophets, the exalted, the sublime

  21. وخذها إليك أبن الكرامة عروسةٍ

    لقد قصرت عنها أيادي الكواكسر

    I present this to you, O son of nobility, a bride

    Before whom the efforts of the ablest fall short
