1. ومن يُعدد زواجاً دون ملجئه

    فقد أتى بضرارٍ أو أتى ضررا

    Whoever takes multiple wives without shelter

    Has brought harm or caused harm

  2. ليس التعدد إلا رخصة فإذا

    أسرفت فيها ركبت الحُمق والخطرا

    Polygamy is only a concession, so if

    You are excessive in it, you commit folly and danger

  3. من ينتقص حق أولاه لثانيةٍ

    لم يلق من ربهِ عفواً إذا اعتذرا

    Whoever diminishes the right of his first wife for a second

    Will not be forgiven by his Lord if he apologizes

  4. وفي التعدد إن أدركت حكمته

    برٌّ ورحمى وجبرٌ للذي كُسِرا

    And in polygamy, if you comprehend its wisdom

    It is righteousness, mercy, and healing for the broken one

  5. من للمطلقةِ الحسناء يعصمها

    وللعوانسِ تفنى عمرها ضجرا

    For the beautiful divorced woman, who will protect her?

    And for the spinsters whose life passes in frustration

  6. وللأرامل والأحزان تعصرها

    والحزن يفتك بالأعواد إن عصرا

    And for the widows and the grieving ones who squeeze her

    And grief decimates the broken ones if squeezed

  7. ومن لأمِّ اليتامى هل تفوتهمو

    بالحدِّ معتصرا والقد مهتصرا

    And for the mother of orphans, would it evade them

    With moderation, while bent over and tired out?

  8. وما الغطاء لمن زلّت وساورها

    من الفضيحةِ طيف يُرسل النذرا

    What is the cover for she who slipped and was gripped

    By the specter of scandal that sends warnings?

  9. وما السبيل إلى ذريةٍ نُجُبٍ

    إن كنت زوج عقيمٍ حظها عثرا

    And what is the way to an eminent lineage

    If you are a barren husband whose lot is stumbling?

  10. هو التعدد كم آوى اليتيم وأشـ

    ـباه اليتيم وكم واسى وكم سترا

    It is polygamy, how many orphans it sheltered

    And orphan-like ones, and how many it consoled and covered

  11. هو الحلال الذي ينفي الحرام وكم

    حمى من الفُحشِ أنثى أو حمى ذكرا

    It is the licit that eliminates the illicit, and how much

    Did it protect the woman or man from lewdness?

  12. عدِّد إذا اسطعتَ، لكن عادلاً لبِقاً

    لا تعطينّ الهوى سمعاً ولا بصرا

    Take multiple wives if you are able, but justly and kindly

    Do not give desire hearing or sight

  13. واحكم رعاياك بالحبِّ الصحيح تجد

    مَغناك لا غَيرةٍ يشكو ولا غِيرا

    And manage your subjects with true love, you will find

    Your abundance, no jealousy complaining nor envy

  14. لا تخشو الفقر كم من أسرةٍ شبعت

    عزّاً ومالاً وفردٌ خابَ وافتقرا

    Do not fear poverty, how many families were sated

    With honor, wealth, while the individual failed and was impoverished
