What harm would it do you if I came to you remorseful,
and poured out the tears of my eyes before you;
and gathered all the flowers of the gardens,
and scattered them as perfume across your cheeks;
and plucked from my lips the sweetest kiss,
and traced it like a tattoo upon your lips?
Could it be that, after our estrangement, you would pity
one whom journeying—from you to you—has worn down?
I have grown weary of the darkness, my beloved,
and yearned for the light of morning in your eyes.
I have lost the morning bird that used to visit me,
so I could entrust it with my greeting to you.
By God, life will hold no sweetness in my eyes,
O my paradise, until I return to you.
