قالت: ألَم تشتق؟ فقلتُ لها: بلى

لكنَّ لي في الشوقِ أحلى فلسفه

She asked, "Did you not yearn?" I said, "Yes,

But yearning has for me a sweeter philosophy:

أنأى ؛ لأظمأَ للِّقاءِ مُجدَّدًا

فأعود أحملُ خافقي وتلهُّفَه

To keep my distance, and thirst anew for the meeting,

That I may return with heart astir and longing afresh.
