The lyre of the jinn is lost in the vastness of the universe

Adorned after the hymns were gone

Wrapped in the bosoms of the unseen, clung to

In eternal twilight of the shades of death, preserved

The souls of twilight asked about it and vanished

Moaning from the desolation in which statues lie

    The star drew confusing eyelids

Worn out by the torment of separation, appeased

Battered by the dust of time, it wearied them

Prolonged gazing and deep yearning consume

They watched the procession of the world and it disturbed them

Did its steps falter and pause in the atoms?

So their eyelids trembled confusedly in the gloom

As if their darkness was devoid of a lute

And the ailment of the breezes doubled their wandering

Seeking their fortune vainly in travel

Passing through time confused, whatever touches them

Burns them with confirmation of despair

She says: this is the raging clamor of melody

    Whose resonant strings thrill odes

And where, oh flower of the flute, was its inspirer

Whose magic intoxicated the world with its echo?

For this chant the mouth of the world repeats

Yet where is the sorcery of its lute and oud?

So light cast down its inebriating sleeves

And the statues prostrated themselves before its magic

And a scent that perfumed it melted in its cradle

And the magic and languor of its cheek disappeared

And it shook with the shaking of heartfelt sighs

In the chapter of remembrance, faith and oneness

And he said, how many generations have passed

Yet his tune in the mouths of generations still warbles

But they froze like me when asked

And their eloquence was muted and numb

When suddenly a fierce hurricane roared

Horrifying the jinn, humans, and all creatures

As if it were the ferocity of fate storming

Beyond what exists in the valleys of the earth

From the meadows of Abqar it blew, rumbling

As if it were the threats of rebellious jinn

In its heart a melody, if it softened you'd think it

The moan of a lute sighing in the night

And if harsh, then people's hearts recoiled

The earth quaked, and the universe thundered

It cast its wisdom upon the mad time

So the old and young were guided by it

And delighted the hearing of the world with its tune

As if David blew the lyre

Teaching awe to the creeds in its verses

So they rave while storming frenzied

A blond that never kept company with a cup nor drank

Nor harvested clusters of grapes in generosity

Her ignorance still confused her, misleading

From her talents and wisdom, straying

Until the blond stars arrived joyfully in Aleppo

Their bodies emaciated from difficult travel

Amazed by the magical sight they saw

Wine is imaginative and reason asleep

    With Mutanabbi's flowering lyre, melodious

Suspended by the cords of stars, outstretched

Unleashing melodies, whether its fervent ringing

Brought prey to its face by its magic

Then his lips buzzed a moment and he passed by

His heart drunk with the rapture of the melody

Saying: gather no feast for its memory

For every melody drawn from its flute is a feast
