1. الله أكبر! شعبٌ قام شاعرُه

    يَشْدُو، فأَنْصَت الأيكِ طائرْ

    God is Greatest! A people whose poet

    sings, so the orbits lean in to hear.

  2. شعبُ العروبة صان الله وحدتَه!

    تُحصَى النجومُ، ولا تُحصَى مفاخرُه

    The people of Arabism protected their unity by God!

    The stars are counted, but their glories cannot be counted.

  3. إن خطَّ أو سوَّد التاريخُ سيرته

    تهتزُّ من روعة الذكرى مشاعره

    If history stained their conduct

    their feelings would tremble from the awe of recollection.

  4. إن كان ماضيه بالأمجاد محتشدًا

    فما تخلَّى عَنِ الأمجاد حاضره

    If their past was filled with glories

    their present did not abandon glories.

  5. كالكرم طاب جنيً في كف قاطعه

    وزاد من طيبه في الدَّن عاصره

    Like generosity, its harvest ripened in the palm of the reaper,

    And its goodness increased through the vintner.

  6. مجدُ العروبة مرهونٌ بوحدتها

    والخُلْف أوله ضعفٌ، وآخره

    The glory of Arabism is dependent on its unity,

    Disunity is weakness at first, and ruin at last.

  7. هيهات ينهض شعب بعد كَبْوتِه

    إلا إذا اتحَّدتْ قلبًا عناصره!

    Alas! No people can rise again after their downfall,

    Unless their elements unite in heart!

  8. والشعبُ وحدتهُ أقوى ذخائره

    يوم الحقيقة إن عُدَّت ذخائره

    And for the people unity is the strongest of their treasures,

    When the truth is that their treasures are united.

  9. هي السلاحُ بيمناه إذا خَمَدَتْ

    نيران مِدْفعه، أو فُلَّ باتره

    It is the weapon, when the fires of their cannon go out,

    Or when its powder is spent.

  10. يا رُبَّ شعب شتيتِ الشمل منقسم

    من ضعفه قُلِّمَتْ منه أظافرهُ

    O Lord of a people fragmented and divided,

    Whose weakness clipped its claws.

  11. ما عاش يومًا وإن طال الزمان بهِ

    بل دُورُه حين تأويه مقابره

    It never lived a day, however long the time,

    Rather its era is when it fills its graves.

  12. له من الوطن المحتلِّ مغفرة

    إذا أقام، وللمحتلِّ عامره

    It has forgiveness from the occupied homeland,

    If it resists, and for the occupier, its builder.

  13. يعيش في داره عبدًا لآسره

    الطفل زاجرهُ، والعبدُ آمرُه

    The child lives in his house as a slave to his captors.

    The child defying him, and the slave obeying him,

  14. من يرضَ بالعيش في ظل الهوان، فلا

    آوتْه أرضٌ، ولا قرَّتْ نواظره

    Who is content to live in the shadow of humiliation, neither

    Did land shelter him, nor did sights settle on him.

  15. والمرء تُشقيه يمناه، وتُسْعدُه

    وإن تكنْ بيد المولى مصايره

    And man is made miserable by his right hand, and made happy

    Even if his fate is in the hands of his Master.

  16. للعُرْب دين على التوحيد مرتكزٌ

    إليه باطنُه يدعو، وظاهره

    The Arabs have a religion based on monotheism.

    Its essence calls to it, and its appearance.

  17. ما سرُّ قوته في غير وحدتهِ

    على مبادئها قامَتْ شعائره

    What is the secret of its strength but its unity?

    Its rituals are based on its principles.

  18. حَسْبُ ابن آمنةَ الزهراءِ معجزةً:

    شعبٌ على يده انضمَّتْ عشائره

    For the son of Aminah al-Zahra’, it is miracle enough:

    A people whose tribes were united by his hand.

  19. مازال يَخْبِطُ في دَيْجُور فُرْقتهِ

    حتى تألَّفَ بالإسلام نافره

    It continued to flounder in the quagmire of its divisions

    Until its hostile tribes were harmonized by Islam.

  20. تمَّت على نَغم القرآن وحدتهُ

    كأنما سحَرَ الألباب ساحره

    Their unity was completed to the melody of the Qur’an,

    As if its charmer had enchanted intellects.

  21. وطبَّق الكونَ طيْفٌ من مهابتهِ

    وأوْغَلَتْ في نواحيه عساكره

    And the heavens were covered by its aura of majesty,

    And its armies penetrated its regions.

  22. إن يذكرِ العَرَبَ ارتاعَتْ قياصِرهُ

    وبات يخفقُ من رُعْبٍ أكاسره

    If the Arabs are remembered, their Caesars tremble,

    And their emperors spend the night throbbing with fear.

  23. شعب من البيد ظهْرُ العِيسِ مَرْكَبُه

    أطاعه الكونُ: باديه، وحاضره

    A people whose backs prop up the throne of Jesus,

    The universe obeyed them: its nomad and its settled.

  24. البَرُّ من خيلهِ يَرْتَجُّ يابسُهُ

    والبحر من سُفْنِه يهتَزُّ زاخره

    The land shakes from their galloping horses,

    And the sea quakes from their abundant ships.

  25. قم سائل البحرَ بحرَ الرومِ: هلِ عَجبتْ

    أمواجُه وفتى الصحراء عابره؟

    Ask the Roman Sea: Were its waves astonished,

    And the man of the desert crossing it?

  26. مَنْ علَّم البدويَّ الماء يركبُهُ

    فراح يَمْخُرُ لُجَّ البحر ما خره؟

    Who taught the Bedouin to ride upon the water,

    Then he went to cleave the depths of the sea what hid them?

  27. ما كان يعرف إلا الماء منسكبًا

    من الغمامِ إذا ما جاءَ ماطره؟

    He only knew water when spilled

    From the clouds, when its rain came.

  28. حتى إذا اشتَدَّ بالتوحِيدِ ساعِدُهُ

    مَشَى على الماء تَعْلُوه دساكره

    Until, when his arm grew strong with monotheism,

    He walked on the water, his shields rising above him.

  29. لولا معاقلِ قسطنطينَ، لانطَمَستْ

    آثارُ دولتهِ، وانْفَضَّ سامرهْ

    Were it not for the fortresses of Constantine,

    The traces of his state would be erased, and its structure crumble.

  30. سَلِ العروبةَ في شَتَّى مرابعها

    عن مَجْد أوَّلها: هل عاد داثره؟

    Ask Arabism in its diverse dwellings

    About the glory of its first: Did its luster return?

  31. إِنِّي لألمحُ في آفاقها ألقَاً

    مِنْ فجرِ نهضتها لاحَتْ بشائره

    I glimpse in its horizons a radiance

    From the dawn of its awakening its tokens have appeared.

  32. إنْ صحَّ ظنيِّ، فإن النصرَ عن كثَب

    من شعبها. لِمَ لا، والله ناصره؟

    If my assumption is correct, then victory

    From its people is near at hand. Why not, and God is its supporter?

  33. شعبٌ تخلَّص من أغلاله، ومَضَى

    يجرُّ ذيلَ رداء الذُّلِّ آسره

    A people freed from its shackles has gone

    Dragging the train of the garment of humiliation, its captor.

  34. ففي الكنانة: شعبٌ صان حَوْزتها

    يوم القناةِ في الذُّؤْبَانِ كاسره

    Thus in Canaan: a people who protected its territory

    The day of Qanat in warring bands.

  35. وفي الجزائر: شعبٌ شنَّ معركةً

    على المظالمِ خاضَتْها حرائره

    And in Algeria: a people who launched a battle

    Whose free women entered it.

  36. وفي الشآم: وئامٌ لا يزال على

    رغم الحوادثِ ما انْبَتَّتْ أواصره

    And in Syria: harmony which still continues

    Despite events, its bonds have not been severed.

  37. وعبرَ دِجلة: شعبٌ قامَ قَوْمتِهُ ال

    كُبْرى، وثار على الطُّغْيان ثائره

    And across the Tigris: a people established its greatest stand,

    And revolted against tyranny, its rebel.

  38. وحَوْلَ صنعاء: جيشٌ ثَلَّ قائدُهُ

    عرشًا يُتاجرِ بِاسْمِ الدين تاجره

    And around Sana’a: an army whose leader

    Usurped a throne, its merchant trafficking in the name of religion.

  39. هي العروبةُ، عينُ الله تَكْلَؤُها

    ما دَارَ في الفلك الدوَّارِ دائره

    It is Arabism, the eye of God watches over it,

    However long the sphere turns its cycle.

  40. أبناءَ يَعْرُبَ، هذا اليومُ يومُكمو

    يومٌ أغرُّ، صَبيحُ الوجهِ، ناضره

    O children of Ya’rub! This day is your day,

    A day of promise, radiant of face and blossoming.

  41. عَهْدُ السلاسل والأغلالِ قد ذهبت

    أيامُه السُّودُ، وانجابتْ دَيَاجِره

    The era of chains and shackles is gone,

    Its gloomy days, and its glooms have cleared away.

  42. بالله، لا تُنْسِكم أعْرَاسُ نصركمو

    خصمًا عنيدًا، وأقوامًا تؤازره

    By God! Do not let your wedding celebrations for victory

    Distract you from an obstinate enemy, and camps that support it.

  43. على تُخومِكُمُو، يا قوم، عن كثب

    خَصْمٌ أَلدُّ خَئُونُ العهد، تحاذِرُه

    At your border, O people, closely

    Is a most stubborn enemy, betrayer of covenants, beware it!

  44. وكيف نأمَنُه والسُّمُّ في فمه

    وليس يزحفُ إلا وَهْوَ فاغره؟

    And how can we trust them when poison is in their mouths,

    And it only advances with its mouth agape?

  45. وكيف نأمن قومًا لا أمان لهم؟

    إني أرى كيدَهم تبْدُو بوادره

    And how can we trust a people who have no faith?

    I see their plots beginning to emerge.

  46. نارُ العداوة يَصْلاها مُؤَجِّجُها

    والجُبُّ يسقط في مَهْواه حافره

    The fire of enmity, its flames are fanned by its stoker,

    And the abyss plummets into its depths.

  47. صَفُّوا سرائرَكم من كلِّ شائبة

    تصفُو الحياةُ لمن تَصْفُو سرائره

    Purify your innermost thoughts of any blemish,

    For life is purified for those whose inner thoughts are purified.

  48. لا تذكُرُوا خَطَأَ الماضي وحَوْبتَهُ

    ما كان من خطإ فالله غافره

    Do not recall the mistakes of the past and its tumult,

    Whatever mistakes happened, God forgives them.

  49. تُنسَى الذنوبُ مع القُرْبى وإن عَظُمت

    إن الشَّفيقَ صغيراتٌ كبائره

    Sins are forgotten among kinsfolk, however grave they are.

    For the compassionate, their great ones are as their small ones.

  50. إن الإخاء إذا ما الإخوةُ اختصموا

    على الخصومة مُرْخَاةٌ ستائره

    When brothers dispute, reconciliation

    Allows harmony between them.

  51. إن يلتئمْ شملُكُم، لاَنَ الحديدُ لكم

    كما يُلينُ الحديدَ الصلبَ صاهرُه

    If your unity comes together, iron will become soft for you,

    As iron becomes malleable for the one who smelts it.

  52. إن تطلبوا المجدَ؛ فالصاروخُ مُنْطَلِقًا

    ووَحدة الصَّفِّ، والشورى مصادره

    If you seek glory, the rocket is launching,

    And the unity of ranks and consultation are its sources.

  53. كأنني ألْمَحُ التاريخَ، مُنْتَضِيًا

    يراعَهُ، وبيمناه دفاتره

    It is as if I glimpse history awakening,

    Astonished by it, and its records are in its right hand.

  54. كما اطَّلعتُم على تاريخ غابرِكم

    تاريخُكم في غدٍ تُتْلَى محاضره

    Just as you learned of your past history,

    Your history in the future, its treatises will be recited.

  55. جمالُ، تَمِّمْ لشعب الضادِ وحدتَهُ

    فإنما هي حَبٌّ، أنت باذره

    Gamal, complete for the people of Dhaad their unity,

    For it is love, and you are its sower!

  56. لا خصمَ للعُرْب مهما عَزَّ جانِبُه

    إلا وأنت بعونِ اللهِ قاهره

    The Arabs have no opponent, no matter how strong,

    Except you, with God’s help, defeat him!

  57. ينام شعبُك في أمْن، وفي دعةٍ

    وأنت وَحْدَك طولَ الليلِ، ساهره

    Your people sleep in safety and in tranquility

    While you alone spend the night wakeful.

  58. أقسمتُ، ما عادت الأَهرامُ مفخرةً

    للنيل، بل إن فَخْرَ النيل ناصره

    I swear the Pyramids are no longer the pride

    Of the Nile, but the Nile’s pride is its supporter!

  59. سَيْفُ العروبة، سيفُ اللهِ أنْتَ، ولن

    يُفَلَّ سيفٌ إلهُ العرشِ شاهره!

    Sword of Arabism, sword of God you are, and never

    Will a sword fail whose sharpener is the Lord of the Throne!
