The Prophet’s gate—his gate is never closed;
eternally, it is the exalted King Faisal.
We enter consecration within his sanctuary, and he
undertakes to guard our blood and our possessions.
The pilgrims bear witness that Faisal’s realm
watches over them with eyes that never sleep.
Beneath his shade all answered the call and magnified God,
chanting and reciting verses of supplication.
The Arab nation knows that Faisal’s throne
is its shield in calamity and its stronghold—
a throne extending its shade across the Arab world,
while heaven’s wings spread shelter above it.
Believers in every land are brothers,
and the revealed Book has proclaimed their victory.
Though their present has frowned upon them for an age,
through unity the future shall be theirs.
Our latter generations shall prevail because we stand
in one rank, as the first vanguard marched.
Our certainty in God is our finest equipment;
in vanquishing the foe, on Him we rely.
Our keen-edged arms are the means of our victory;
we seek no means besides our weapons.
Do not stretch out a hand to the West, my people:
the West has a crooked eye in politics.
Do not seek victory from a grave, even if
the one buried there were a prophet sent by God.
Your Lord did not say, “Rub yourselves against the tombs”;
rather, exalted in majesty, He said: “And say: Work.”
I kiss the head of every fighter,
if another chooses to kiss unfeeling stone.
We call the people of Badr to witness that we
hope for victory—or to attain martyrdom.
And at the moment of his martyrdom, our man declares:
“Would that I might be killed every day!”
The martyr’s body, near to God, is borne
to Eden upon the angels’ hands.
From ancient times, the Arab man in battle
has been a lion, and the Arab woman a lioness with cubs.
In every great battle, our forefathers possessed
a record of glory written down in blood.
We are not content with the glories of the first generations;
we shall act as those first generations acted.
From the third of the holy sanctuaries we repel a horde
that infiltrated it like a microbe.
Our blood boils within our veins,
as though each vein contained a furnace.
They kindled the blaze in al-Aqsa Mosque—
then let whoever kindled it burn in its flames.
A people shunned by all other peoples—were
the earth to bear them, it would almost quake beneath them—
peerless in disgrace, obstructing
civilization’s caravan while paving corruption’s road.
Reapers of all the world’s wealth by every deed
that makes brows sweat—as though they were a sickle.
Ask the land of Yathrib about the Jews of Qurayza,
and the Banu al-Nadir will answer how they were uprooted.
Muhammad knew the Jews and destroyed them;
what harm if we followed Muhammad’s example?
We shall surely be questioned about Muhammad’s legacy:
what answer shall we give when we are questioned?
O you who circled God’s House seven times
and worshipped there, humbling yourselves in devotion—
have you understood, now that your land has been violated,
that struggle is better than nightlong worship?
Tell my people: “The wolves of the wilderness
have ravaged them—why do you delay? Make haste!”
Today the enemy has entered our lands;
tomorrow he will enter our very bedchambers.
I send it forth in Mecca as a cry,
blazing, its thunder rolling through the two Easts.
Bearing arms today has become an obligation,
and the advance for the true faith completes it.
Whoever sets out offering his life or wealth
offers whatever he can for his faith and honor.
Let none of us be one who, for his homeland,
withholds the dearest thing his hands possess.
Let none of us, when the sacred precinct is violated,
content himself with tears and pious muttering.
Let none of us remain a pilgrim in consecration, refusing to don
the garb of the battlefield when he leaves ihram.
Let none of us plead the claims of mother or father,
or of an infant girl lying in her cradle.
Let no son of Ya‘rub falter
and say, “I am helpless or unarmed.”
He who cannot charge with cannon and ammunition
may charge with an axe and pickaxe instead.
The Arab knows no meaning of despair amid
calamity, nor does he wail in adversity.
If steadfastness in war becomes him,
his steadfastness after defeat is finer still.
If a grim day passes over the Arab,
ahead lies a radiant day, white-blazed and gleaming.
