أرأيتَ رباتِ الجمالِ

ينطقن بالدُّرر الغوالي

I saw the ladies of beauty

Speaking pearls of eloquence

سلبت صحائفُهن ما

بنحورهنَّ من اللآلي

Their scrolls robbed what

Was on their throats of jewels

سلس اليراع بكفهن

سلاسةَ العذب الزلال

Smooth hand motions

Like sweet clear nectar

فخطرن في بردين من:

نسج الفصاحة، والدلال

So they excelled in tissues of:

Eloquence and intimation

حُسْن البيان من الحسا

ن نهاية السحر الحلال

Eloquence from the eloquent

Is the height of permitted sorcery

وحديثه أشهى إلى

قلب الأديب من الوصال

And their speech is more craved

By the heart of the literate than union

طَلَبَ الغواني في الحيا

ة نصيبهن من النضال

The insane sought in life

Their share of struggle

وأثرنها شعواء من

خلف الخدور على الرجال

And they influenced it raging

Behind the chambers upon men

وإرادة الغيد الكوا

عب من إرادة ذي الجلال

And the will of the resolute ladies

From the will of the Almighty

أنا عن بني حواءَ أع

لنتُ الفرار من المجال

I announced about Eve's daughters

My escape from the arena

قلم الفتاة كجفنها

فيما يَريش من النبال

A girl's pen is like her eyelid

In what it showers of arrows

ما كنتُ أولَ ضيغم

طلب الأمان من الغزال

I wasn't the first who

Sought safety from a gazelle

قم يا أمين، تر الفتا

ةَ تجيد تدبيج المقال

Rise O Ameen, leave the girl

Excelling in composing texts

وترَ الفتاة تسابق الشـ

ـعراء في وادي الخيال

And you see the girl outpace the poets

In the valley of imagination

قد روَّضتُ متن الهوا

ء، وسابقت ريح الشمال

I tamed the air's expanse

And outdid the North wind

حملت يداها مبضعا

وشفت من الداء العضال

Her hands held a probe

And healed the most painful disease

شَدَتِ الفتاة، فقصرت

بغنائها طولَ الليالي

The girl's voice shortened

The length of nights with her singing

وتوسطت حرم القضا

ء، فأحكمت طرق الجدال

And she mediated in the judge's harem

Mastering the ways of debate

وغَدَت إلى التمثيل مر

شدة إلى كرم الخلال

And she became well-guided in acting

To the manor of perfection

وقفت تصيح خطيبة

وتصدرت كل احتفال

She stood up preaching

And led every celebration

ما كنتُ أعهد سبقها

في غير ميدان الجمال

I never knew her preceding

Except in the field of beauty

حلم تحقق، يا أميـ

ـنُ، ولم يكن سهل المنال

A dream come true, O Ameen

And it wasn't easy to attain

هذا زمان المعجزا

ت، وعصر تحقيق المحال

This is the age of miracles

And time of making the impossible real

الأمهاتُ بريف مصـ

ـرَ يهمن في وادي الضلال

Mothers in Egypt's countryside

Stray in the valley of misguidance

العلم ألزمُ للفتا

ة من المهند للقتال

Education is more binding

To the girl than it's binding for fighting

رَبِّ الفتاةَ وألقها

بين الذئاب، ولا تبال!

Raise the girl and cast her

Amongst the wolves, no matter!
