O destination of my hopes, peace be upon you
في سموم الصيف لاح له بارق
لم يزل يرتاد المشارف
In the poisons of summer, a lightning flashed for him
He kept visiting the edges
كان مع الأحباب نجمة شارق
ماله والافلاك في الظلام
He was with the loved ones a shining star
What is his and the orbit in the darkness
يا دهر اهوالك تسارق
منها كم كم شابت مفارق
O fate, your horrors steal
From it how much how much departed
ما علينا الفات كله فارق
رقنا وله نعيد الملام
What is past is all gone
We were pleased and for it we repeat the blame
من حطامك غصنى وارق
فيّ شن ابقيت للطوارق
From your rubble my branch flourished
In me what did I keep for the plunderers
غير قليباً في همومه غارق
ولسانا برده الكلام
Other than a heart drowning in its worries
And a tongue with its speech numbed
ويح قلبي الما انفك خافق
فارق ام درمان باكي شافق
Woe my heart did not cease throbbing
Did he who wept for Darman depart or was he compassionate
يا أم قبائل ما فيك منافق
سقى ارضك صوب الغمام
O mother of tribes no hypocrisy in you
Your land the clouds watered from above
يا بلادي كم فيه حاذق
غير إلهك ما أم رازق
My country how much in it is competent
Other than your God who else is the sustainer
من شعاره دخول المآزق
يتفانى وشرفك تمام
His motto is entering tribulations
He is selfless and your honor is intact
مسرح الغزلان في الحدائق
والشوارع الغر والمضايق
The arena of gazelles in the gardens
And the narrow, brimmed streets
قول لي كيف امسيت دمت رايق
دام هواك مشمول بالنظام
Tell me how did you remain content
As long as your love is governed by law
مجلس اللذات في النمارق
والترف لا زال وضفه خارق
The council of joys in the carpets
And luxury its splendor still sublime
ضاري حسك فاح جانا مارق
وله قاطعو الريح ما هو لام
Your perception wandered unleashed
And for it they cut the winds it is not blamed
في يمين النيل حيث سابق
كنا فوق أعراف السوابق
To the Nile’s right where it preceded
We were above the most sublime traditions
الضريح الفاح طيبه عابق
السلام يا المهدي الامام
The fragrant shrine perfuming
Peace upon you O Imam the Mahdi
أين مني الودعته شاهق
باكي ناهدي مراهق
Where is he who I bid farewell lofty
My crying pubescent companion
عيني ما بتشوف الا شاهق
أين وجه البدر التمام
My eyes see none but the lofty
Where is the face of the perfect full moon
أين مني الفي زهوه باسق
في شبابه نقي من مفاسق
Where is he whose youth was pure from sins
Among his white well-arranged clothes
بين ثيابه البيض المناسق
حولك أشبه رتل الحمام
Around you most resembling a flock of doves
O messenger of air above me hovering
يا بريد الجو فوقي حالق
ميل على الروح ليها خالق
Incline to the soul for it is the creator
You have returned safe, say while still aloft
عدت سالم قول وأنت عالق
مقرن النيلين كيلو كم
The Niles conjoined, how many kilometers
The loved ones, to the youths, creations
الحبايب للفتو الخلائق
بيني وبينهم قطعوا العلائق
Between me and them they severed ties
He was a flirt, he was wanderer, all worthy
كان دلال كان تيه كله لايق
نحن ما مجينا الخصام
We did not come to conflict
My beauty, light of the anemones
يا جميل يا نور الشقايق
املأ كأسك واصبر دقائق
Fill your cup and wait a few minutes
Your council is evident, look how elated
مجلسك مفهوم شوفوا رايق
عقدة ناقص زول ولا تمام
The bond incomplete, not one person or perfect
