اخلفتني نظرة عيون الهنوفه

خلفة الصقار لا شاف الحباري

A glance of the doe-eyed maidens' eyes enthralled me

Khalfa the falconer saw not the signs

واقت النظره على قلبي تشوفه

واشعل بقلبي كما البرّاق ساري

And the glance fell upon my heart to behold it

And set aflame my heart like the ever-burning torch

صد عني طاغي النظره مروفه

ظالم(ن) قلبي وهو بالظلم داري

Turn away from me, O tyrant glance so gentle

Tormentor of my heart, though with injustice filled

ياحبيبي صدتك عني حسوفه

ارسل سهوم الذوابح لاتداري

My love, your turning away from me was painful

Send the arrows of yearning, do not hesitate

ارسل رماح الهوا وارسل سيوفه

يشتهيك القلب في كل الطواري

Send the spears of passion and raise the swords

My heart desires you at every moment

عيني لحسن الذي غيرك عيوفه

في عيوني غيرك من الحسن عاري

My eyes upon the beauty of another, how unfaithful!
