Nothing but piety brings reward
And everything’s lifetime leads to decay
And kingship over people is entrusted
On loan without condition to convey
Abu Bakr is rain when no
Clouds blanket the land with showers
By God, none can attain his days
Unshod or barefoot, that strives and cowers
Who can attain his days however they strain
Roaming the bare wilderness in vain
Man strives though fate forestalls him
And the eye, garb of misery, gives warning plain
He grows old or dies or defeat oppresses him
Or a malady without cure causes him pain
For glory in its abode manifest
A lofty pool no diminution can stain
The Giver of steeds with armored host
And she-camels hastening with quick refrain
