ويلاهُ من قلبي ومن كَبِدي

أفْنَى وَلاَ أشْكُو إلى أحَدِ

Woe to me from my heart and my liver

I am wasted yet make no complaints to anyone

ومريضةِ الألحاظَ فاتنةٍ

نفّاثَةٍ بالسِّحْرِ في العُقَدِ

The alluring beauty with the enchanting glance

Bewitching with her magic in her necklaces

معتادةٍ للهجرِ لو غَلِطَتْ

بالوصْلِ في الأحيانِ لم تَعُدِ

Accustomed is she to abandonment, for if she erred

By keeping company at times she would not repeat

ضَنّتْ بموعدِهَا فقلتُ لها

يا هذه فعِدي بأنْ تَعِدي

She frowned at our tryst so I said to her

"O you there, make amends by keeping your word"
