أَهْلاً بِتِيْنٍ جَاءَنَا
مُبْتِسِمَاً عَلَى طَبَقْ
Welcome, figs that have come to us,
smiling upon a platter,
يَحْكِي الصَّبَاحَ بَعْضُهُ
وَبَعْضُهُ يَحْكِي الغَسَقْ
some of them mimic the morning,
and some mimic the dusk—
كَسُفْرَةِ مَضْمُومَةٍ
مَجْمُوعَةٍ بِلاَ حَلَقْ
like a table-spread folded in,
gathered together without rings.
