عندي لأَضيافي إذا الليل دَجا
خبزُ سميذُ مثل حَلَمات المها
When night falls, I have for my guests
Bread like the full moons of Meha.
جاء بها الصانعُ كُلٌّ في حِذا
مثل الرحى قد جُعِلت على الرّحى
The baker brought them, each
Placed on the other like millstones.
شَبَّهتُها إذ بها النقص بدا
بالبدر ترميه الليالي بالضَّنَى
Seeing them decreasing, I compared them
To the moon pelted nightly with shadows.
وأي شئ أبداً يُعطى البقَا
What thing endures forever?
