Your brother is the one whose affection, if time spoils it,
you gently seek to restore, so it is set right,
without forsaking him to seek a new companion’s affection—
one you may find more disloyal and unjust.
And my treatment of an ailment I already know—
gently tending what I treat within me, so I may be safe—
is surely easier than treating an unfamiliar ailment,
a sickness I have never encountered before.
