مُهَفْهَفُ الأَعْطَافِ مُرْتَجُّ الكَفَلْ
مُحَكَّمُ الأَجْفَانِ مِنْ كُحْلِ الكَحَلْ
Lithe in the flanks, his haunches aquiver,
his eyelids perfected by the kohl of natural darkness,
طُوِّقَ فِي الجِيْدِ كَتَطْوِيْقِ الحَجَلْ
بِعَارِضٍ مُنْقَطِعٍ لَمْ يَتَّصِلْ
ringed at the neck as a partridge is ringed,
by a broken line of cheek-down, not yet joined—
يُنْبِتُهُ الحُسْنُ وَتَرْعَاهُ القُبَلْ
beauty makes it sprout, and kisses graze over it.
