1. مزاجُك للمَثْنَى من العودِ والصَّبَا

    من الرِّيحِ والصّافي الرّحيقِ مِنَ الخَمْرِ

    Your mood is for pairs of lute and breeze,

    Of wind and clear wine’s perfume.

  2. فَلَوْ كُنْتَ نُوراً كُنْتَ وِرْداً مُضاعَفاً

    ولو كنتُ طِيْباً كُنْتَ من عَنْبَرِ الشَّجَرِ

    If you were light, you would be a doubled rose.

    If I were scent, you would be the trees' ambergris.

  3. ولو كنتُ لَحْناً كُنْتَ تَأْلِيْفَ مَعْبَدٍ

    ولو كُنْتَ عُوداً ما افْتَقَرْتَ إلى زَمْرِ

    If I were a tune, you would be Ma’bad’s composition.

    If you were a lute, you would need no playing.
