1. كَمْ حَاسِدٍ ظَاهِرُهُ لِي وَامِقُ

    وَالْغِلُّ مِنْهُ بِالضَّمِيْرِ لاَصِقُ

    How many enviers whose outward appearance to me is friendly

    Yet malice from them sticks in the conscience

  2. تُخْبِرُنِي عَنْ سِرِّهِ الخَلاَئِقُ

    وَقَلَّ مَا يَنْكَتِمُ المُنَافِقُ

    People inform me of their secret

    Rarely does the hypocrite conceal

  3. لَهُ فُؤَادٌ إِنْ رَآنِي خَافِقٌ

    وَإِنْ أَغِبْ فَهْوَ بِجَوْرٍ نَاطِقُ

    They have a heart which, if they see me, falters

    And if I'm absent, with injustice speaks

  4. يَكْذِبُ وَهْوَ فِي التَّظَنِّي صَادِقُ

    وَكُلُّ مُجْرٍ فِي الخَلاَءِ سَابِقُ

    They lie, yet in suspicion are truthful

    And every coward in private is quick
