أَلَمَّ خَطْبٌ فَادِحُ الإِلْمَامِ

مِنَ الخُطُوبِ الْجِلَّةِ العِظَامِ

A grave disaster, overwhelming in affliction,

Among the momentous, tremendous calamities,

فَالْعَيْنُ تَذْرِي الدَّمْعَ بِانْسِجَامِ

مَقْرُوحَةٌ أَجْفَانُهَا دَوَامِي

The eye sheds tears incessantly,

Its eyelids wounded, unceasingly,

مَفْجُوعَةٌ بِأَنَّةِ المَنَامِ

وَالوَجْدُ فِي الأَحشَاءِ ذُو اضْطِرَامِ

Grieving at the loss of its dreams,

And anguish burns in its depths,

لَمَّا خَبَا نَجْمُ بَهِي بَسْطَامِ

عَلِيُّ العَالِي عَلَى الأَنَامِ

Since the star of the radiant Bahiyy dimmed,

Ali the Sublime over all people,

والعَلَمُ المُوفِي عَلَى الأَعْلاَمِ

والسَّيِّدُ ابْنُ السَّيِّدِ القَمْقَامِ

The fulfilling flag over all flags,

The Master son of the eminent Master,

وَجَامِعُ الفَيْءِ عَلَى الأَنَامِ

وَمُعْمِلُ السُّيُوفِ وَالأَقْلاَمِ

Uniter of spoils over mankind,

Maker of swords and pens,

فَالحَلُّ والعّقْدُ بِلاَ تَمَامِ

وَالأَمْرُ وَالنَّهْيُ بِلاَ نِظَامِ

Authority and prohibition in disarray,

Order and law without system,

والنُّورُ فِي الآفَاقِ كَالظَّلاَمِ

وَالثَّغْرُ مَثْغُورٌ بِغَيْرِ حَامِ

The light in horizons like darkness,

The threshold vulnerable without a protector,

يَشْكُو إِلَى السِّنَانِ وَالصَّمْصَامِ

فَقَدْ أَبَى قَاسِمَةَ القَسَّامِ

Complaining to the swords and arms,

For the dispenser of justice has refused,

لِلْمَالِ فِي العَافِيْنَ والأَيْتَامِ

لِلَّهِ مَا غُيِّبَ فِي الأَرْجَامِ

To wealth, for the prosperous and orphans,

What was concealed in the coffins,

وَضُمِّنَ التَّابُوتُ مِنْ حُسَامِ

عَضْبٍ وَجَيْشٍ جَحْفَلٍ لُهَامِ

That included swords and a ferocious army,

And a moon on the night of perfection,

وَقَمَرٍ لِلَيْلَةِ التَّمَامِ

وَبَحْرِ جُودٍ بِالنَّوَالِ طَامِي

And a sea of generosity, overflowing,

Who can match the noble script and speech,

مَنْ لِشَرِيْفِ الخَطِّ وَالكَلاَمِ

وَالنَّقْضِ لِلتَّدْبِيْرِ وَالإِبْرَامِ

And the annulment of strategy and composition,

And the authority’s arguments and judgments,

وَحُجَجِ الدِّيْوَانِ وَالأَحْكَامِ

وَفَارِسٍ فِي مِصْرَ وَالشَّامِ

A knight in Egypt and Syria,

Or who would silence opponents resoundingly,

أَمْ مَنْ يَرُدُّ الخَصْمَ بِالإِفْحَامِ

بِفَاصِلٍ يَشْفِي مِنَ السَّقَامِ

With a conclusive decision that heals all pain?

The death of nobility has burdened Islam,

غَالَ الرَّدَى كِنَانَةَ الإِسْلاَمِ

وَبَارَهَا بِالغَمْزِ وَالإِعْجَامِ

And the days have criticized it with frowns and signs,

So it chose from it the finest arrows,

فَاخْتَارَ مِنْهَا أَنْفَسَ السِّهَامِ

وَأَقْدَمَ المَوْتُ عَلَى الإِقْدَامِ

And death hastened to advance,

While the doves took over the dovecote,

وَاسْتَأْثَرَ الحِمَامُ بِالْحِمَامِ

وَالدَّهْرُ لِللأَخْيَارِ ذُو اخْتِرَامِ

And time is mighty and overwhelming,

Starting with the brave and eminent,

يَبْدَأُ بالكَاهِلِ وَالسَّنَامِ

فَاسْلَمْ أَبَا عِيْسَى عَلَى الأَيَّامِ

So surrender, Abu Issa, to the days,

For you are the best of people,

فَأَنْتَ نِعْمَ خَلَفُ الأَقْوَامِ

مِنَ الخُؤُولِ الغُرِّ وَالأَعْمَامِ

Of valor and pillars of glory,

You suffice for us among the generous.

وَحَسْبُنَا أَنْتَ مِنَ الكِرَامِ
