مَا زِلْتُ أُسْقَاهَا عَلَى
وَجْهِ غَزَالٍ مُونَقِ
I still water it over the face
Of a delicate gazelle,
بِقَمَرٍ مُنْتَقبٍ
بِخَاتَمٍ مُنْتَطِقِ
With a polished moon,
A ring that speaks,
وَالْبَدْرُ فَوْقَ دِجْلَةٍ
وَالصُّبْحُ لَمَّا يُشْرِقِ
The full moon over the Tigris,
The dawn when it shines,
مِكْحَلَةٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ
فَوْقَ بِسَاطٍ أَزْرَقِ
Eyeliner of gold
Over a blue rug.
