أَنَا أَفْدِي مَنْ لَيْسَ يَعْلَمُ تِيْهَاً

وَدَلاَلاً فِي أَيِّ شَيْءٍ رِضَاهُ

I sacrifice myself for one who knows not wandering astray,

And guidance to what could possibly please him.

غَائِبٌ لَيْسَ يَتْرُكُ الحُبُّ قَلْبِي

يَتَسَلَّى عَنْهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاهُ

Absent, but love leaves not my heart,

I was made to be ransomed from all that would console it for him.

كُلَّمَا قَالَ لِي رِضَائِيَ فِي هَ

ذَا وَآثَرْتُهُ أَرَادَ سِوَاهُ

Whenever he told me my pleasure lay in this,

And I chose it, he wanted other than it.

فَأَنَا الدَّهْرَ وَهْوَ نَطْلُبُ شَيْئَاً

غَابَ عَنَّا فَلَيْسَ نَعْلَمُ مَا هَو

So I, for an age, and he, we seek something,

That has vanished from us, and we know not what it is.
