Who can excuse me for my shortcomings
When I have exposed my heart to ruin?
He increased in beauty and radiance
Until he was like the full moon in its halo.
He inclined his cheek then turned away—
Ah, how graceful was that turning!
Poetry, which he reproached,
Knew to stop short of reproaching him.
In stopping it admits
To excess in transgressing and extravagance.
