He who weeps over a lost love
I weep but for my own folly
Her charms enthralled me, led me on
And my soul followed helplessly
Her beauty intricately woven
None now can recreate such perfection
As if the delicacy of her threads
Were drawn from lovers' sighs
As if her eyelashes fashioned
By hands that gently intertwined
As if her ornaments were a peacock
Strutting, fanning its plumes
A splendid robe, renewed by beauty
No ragged threads or seams
How many a token from a sweetheart
Tucked between its folds
A kiss from sweet lips that cooled
The burning anguish in my liver
With loving words that calmed
My troubled, restless heart
Her touch made the wine cup gleam
Tracing patterns in the dregs
My ring binding her pact
If I let her take it from my hand
Her veil guarded my cup
Whenever it was filled or crowned
Her writing erased the books
Its beauty showed in the pages' tracks
But fate has claimed her, it is prone
To dark, destructive ways
Now, she flaunts herself disdainfully
Spurning me, keeping her distance
