1. زعموا أنّ من أحَبَّ علِيًّا

    ظل للفَقْرِ لابساً جِلبَابَا

    They claimed that whoever loved Ali

    Remained clothed in the garb of poverty.

  2. كذبُوا كم أحبه من فقيرٍ

    فَتَحَلّى من الغِنى أَثْوَابَا

    How untrue! Many poor men loved him yet

    Were adorned in the robes of wealth and fortune.

  3. حرّفوا منطِقَ الوصيِّ بمعنىً

    خالَفُوا إذْ تأوّلُوهُ الصّوَابَا

    They distorted the words of the Trustee

    Going against the truth in their interpretation.

  4. إنما قولُهُ ارفضوا عنكُمُ الدُّنْ

    يَا إذا كنتُمُ لنا أحْبَابَا

    His words were: "Cast off this lowly world,

    If you would be our beloved companions."
