It is a day of doubt for me

Its evil has long been feared

The air is clad in gray

    A roof with drizzling eaves

    The rain is silvery white

And the earth's tongue is green

    Growth sends up its blossoms

In the earth, drops of dew flow down

And he who sights the new moon

If he sees this day in Ramadan, has broken his fast

And for us there are merits

That will be our appointed provision for the day

And a yellow wine whose age

    Outlasted Chosroes and Caesar

So hurry to our cellars for us

And draw out the largest casks there are

Or else you are an ignoramus

If you say "You will be excused."
