1. بُلِيْتُ بِحُبٍّ نَاسِكَةٍ

    تَشُوبُ بِنُسْكِهَا مَرَحَا

    I suffer from love of a devout woman

    Whose devotion taints her cheerfulness

  2. وَقَدْ جَعَلَتْ لِتُوئِسَني

    مَكَانَ سِوَارِهَا سُبَحَا

    She has set in place of her bracelet

    Prayer beads to make me despair

  3. تَظَلُّ إِذا ذُكِرَتُ لَها

    لِتُكَذِبَ قَوْلَ مَنْ نَصَحَا

    When she is spoken of, she pretends

    To deny the words of any advisor

  4. تَعَضُّ عَلَىَّ بِالإغْرِي

    ضِ مِنْ أَطْرافِها البَلَحَا

    She frowns at me with the frowning

    Of her cheeks overgrown with moles
