كَيْفَ يَبْقَى مَنْ يُعَرِّضُهُ
لِلْمَنَايَا لَحْمُهُ وَدَمُهْ
How can one survive, exposed
To death by his flesh and blood?
كَلُّ شَيءٍ فِيْهِ صِحَّتُهُ
فِيْهِ إِنْ مَيَّزْتَهُ سَقَمُهْ
Everything in which his health lies
Contains, if you examine it, his sickness.
فَالَّذِي يَشْفِيْهِ يُمْرِضُهُ
وَالَّذِي يُحْيِيْهِ يَحْتَرِمُهْ
So what heals him makes him ill,
And what gives him life cuts his life short.
