يامَنْ لروُحٍ كَلِفَتْ
ومن لعينٍ ذَرَفَتْ
O who will help a lovesick soul?
O you whose soul is burdened
And who will help an eye that sheds tears?
And whose eyes have shed tears
مُنَهَّلَةٌ عَبَرْتُها
كأنّها قَدْ طُرِفَتْ
Its tears stream down,
Flowing down as if drawn
As though it had been struck.
As though they were led
إن أَمِنَتْ فَاضَتْ وإِنْ
خافَتْ رَقيباً وقَفَتْ
If it feels safe, it overflows; and if
If they feel safe they flow
It fears a watcher, it stops.
If fearing a watcher, they stop
وإنّما بُكاؤُها
على ليالٍ سَلَفَتْ
And its weeping is only
Their weeping is but
