لعَمرُكَ ما خَشيتُ عَلى أُبَيٍّ
مَصارِعَ بَينَ قَوٍّ فَالسُلَيِّ
For your life, I never feared that my father would fall
In the midst of battle against a powerful foe
وَلَكِنّي خَشيتُ عَلى أُبَيٍّ
جَريرَةَ رُمحِهِ في كُلَّ حَيِّ
Rather, I feared that my father's sharp spear
Would roam in every neighborhood
مِنَ الفِتيانِ مُحلَولٍ مُمِرٌّ
وَأَمَارٌ بِإِرشادٍ وَغَيِّ
Of the impetuous youth, showing the way
And inciting them to mischief
أَلا لَهفَ الأَرامِلِ وَاليَتامى
وَلَهفَ الباكِياتِ عَلى أُبَيِّ
Alas! The yearning of the widows and orphans
And the yearning of the weeping women for my father
