وَيلُ أُمِّ قَومٍ صَبَحناهُم مُسَوَّمَةً
بَينَ الأَبارِقِ مِن شَيبانَ وَالأَكَمِ
Woe to the mothers of a people we met at dawn
Among spears from Shayban and Akam
الأَقرَبينَ فَلَم تَنفَع قَرابَتُهُم
وَالموجَعينَ فَلَم يَشكوا مِنَ الأَلَمِ
The kinsmen, yet kinship did not avail them
The wounded, yet they felt no pain
شققتُ بِالرُمحِ جِسّاساً وَقُلتُ لَهُ
إِنّي اِمرِؤٌ كانَ أَصلي مِن بَني جُشَمِ
I pierced a warrior with a lance and said to him
I am a man whose lineage stems from Banu Jusham
