1. لي خَليطانِ مُحكَمانِ يُجيدا

    نِ لِما يَعمَلانِهِ حاذِقانِ

    I have two skillful companions

    Expert in their craft

  2. واحِدٌ يَعمَلُ القِسِيَّ فَيَأتي

    كَ بِها في اِستِقامَةِ الميزانِ

    One makes scales that weigh true

    The other blades that cut keen

  3. وَفَتى يَعمَلُ السَكاكينَ في القَر

    نِ مُقِرٌّ بِحَذقِهِ الثَقلانِ

    They ask to take from your head

    A horn, so see their strange request

  4. وَهُما يَطلُبانِ قَرناً عَلى رَأ

    سِكَ فَاِنظُر في بَعضِ ما يَسأَلانِ

    I said, won't it hurt to cut what

    You want, O youths?

  5. قلت هل يؤلم الفتى قطع ما منـ

    ـه تريدان أيها الفتيان

    Gently they replied, speak and understand

    Rise, for I allow, stretch out your neck

  6. فأجابا بلطفٍ قول وفهم

    قم فأنا اذن لنوكي مداني

    Cut now what horns you have

    For in what you see is proof clear

  7. فاقطع الآن ما برأسك منها

    ان فيما ترى لقطع بيان

    That's better than being called a name foul

    Look at the two horns

  8. ذاك خيرٌ مما تسمى اسم سوءٍ

    فيقال انظروا الى القرنان
