أجارَتَنا بالغورِ جانبَ الغَضا

أعيدي لنا ذاك الودادَ الذي مضى

The wilderness has brought us to the edge of al-Ghadaa

Give us back that affection which has passed

ولا تحرمينا من جمالكِ نظرَةً

فأرواحُنا من لوعةِ البين تنتَضا

And do not deprive us of the sight of your beauty

For our souls writhe in the agony of separation

أيحسنُ منك ِالصدّ والقلبُ مغرمٌ

بحبِّكِ قد ضاقَت بهِ رحبُ الفضا

Is aloofness becoming in you, while my heart is enamored

With love for you, though vast is the firmament?

أوَدُّ خَيالاً في المنامِ يزورُني

وكيفَ يزورُ الطيفُ من ليسَ يُغمِضا

I wish an apparition in dreams would visit me

Yet how can a specter visit one who does not slumber?

فمُنّى بإقبال على من فؤادهُ

أسيرُ جوىً لم يزل فيك مغرِضا

My hopes have focused on she whose heart

Remains captive, not ceasing to harbor resentment

وحقكِ ما عَنَّ السلوَ بخاطري

وما زالَ برقُ الشوقِ في القلبِ مومِضا

By your rights, worry has not distracted me

Nor has the lightning of yearning in my heart grown dim

وأقسمُ بالعهدِ الذي تعرِفونَهُ

لأنتُم منى قلب على السخطِ والرِضا

And I swear by the pact you know

You are the one whom my heart obeys, in joy and sorrow
