حار الفؤاد فما أدري أأنتحر

أم أرتضي بالذي يأتي به القدر

My heart is confused, should I kill myself

Or accept what destiny brings?

وكيف يقبل ذو عقل بما رسموا

إن القضاء على التفكير ينتصر

How can a rational being accept what they have planned?

Judgment triumphs over thought.

ما من قضاء جرى إلا له سبب

منا كما أثبت المحسوس والأثر

No judgment was made without a reason

Derived from us, as confirmed by the tangible and the effect.

إن المصائب إن حلت بما كسبت

أيديكم ولكم في حكمه عبر

If misfortunes befall what your hands have earned

And in its ruling you find a moral;

فليس ثمت شيء جاءنا قدرا

لكن بأفعالنا والمرء مقتدر

Nothing came to us as fate,

But by our deeds, and man has free will.

إنا لقوم أبت أهواؤنا ولعا

بالشر إن يستقيم الفكر والنظر

We are a people whose whims refused

Evil, if thought and consideration are set right.

كل يغني على ليلاه مرتقبا

منها الوصال ويقضي الدهر ينتظر

Each sings to his night, hoping

For union, while time passes by waiting.
