قيل صمتا فقلت لست بميت

إنما الصمت ميزة للجماد

They said "Be silent," so I said "I'm no dead man

Silence is but a trait of the inanimate

إن معنى الحياة قول وفعل

وهي رمز مقدس للجهاد

The meaning of life is word and deed

And it's the sacred symbol of struggle

لا أطيق السكوت ما دام قلبي

خافقا واللسان يروى مرادي

I cannot bear silence as long as my heart

Beats, and my tongue fulfills my will

إنما البلبل المغرد يشدو

أينما كان في الربى في الوهاد

The warbling nightingale sings

Wherever it is, whether the plains or valleys

ذاك دابي مدى الحياة وإني

لا أبالي بما تجيء العوادي

That is my way throughout life, and I

Do not care what destinies may come

ما أظن الأقفاص مهما ادلهمت

تمنع الطير لذة الإنشاد

I do not think cages, no matter how artful

Can prevent a bird from enjoying song

إنما الرزق والمعيشة والمو

ت جميعا بأمر رب العباد

Livelihood, sustenance and death

Are all by the command of the Lord of Worshippers
