لمن خلقت النهى أللذين بغوا
سعادة العيش في دنيا السعادات
For whom did you create pleasures, for those who sought
The happiness of living in a world of joys?
أم للذين طغوا في الأرض وارتكبوا
فيها الجرائم أو فيها جنايات
Or for those who tyrannized the earth and committed
Upon it crimes and felonies?
أم للذين قست دهرا قلوبهم
لا يحرمون فقيرا بالكسيرات
Or for those whose hearts have been hardened by fate
Who do not deprive the poor of morsels?
وهم وإن كانت الدنيا تراقبهم
لا يشعرون بمن يشكو جراحات
And though the world watches over them
They do not feel the agony of wounds.
وهم وإن يتعاموا عن حقيقتهم
شزرا إذا صوبوا للناس نظرات
And though they pretend to ignore their reality
They glance arrows at people if they look.
وللذين اتقوا رباه قد خلقت
شقاوة العيش في دنيا الشقاوات
You created wretchedness in the life of this world
For those who feared their Lord.
مستعبدين عراة جائعين ولا لهم
مساكن تؤويهم لميقات
Enslaved, naked, famished, with no shelter
To house them for a time.
دنياهم كل يوم مثل بعثهم
يجزون ظلما أشد السوء حالات
Their life is each day like their resurrection
Unjustly in the worst of conditions.
رباه رفقا بنا وارحم عبادك من
كفران عدلك هذا في البريات
Lord, be gentle with us and have mercy on Your servants against
The ingratitude of Your justice in the wilds.
أو زل شعورهم مثل البهائم لا يبغون
شيئا سوى ملء البطينات
Or their senses are confused like beasts, seeking
Nothing but to fill their bellies.
رباه إن الخنا أخنى علينا فلا
تجز علينا إنتقاما بالخطيئات
Lord, we have sinned against You so do not
Punish us for our misdeeds.
فأنت قلت ونعم القول ما نزلت
فيه المكارم ترجى ضمن آيات
For You have said, excellent words revealed
In verses to inspire nobleness.
سادوا علينا فاسموا العذاب إلى
أن أورثونا أفانين العداوات
They ruled over us and called off the torture
Until they bequeathed us the vices of enmities.
خانوا العهود وأمس موسوليني على
كرسي الوزارة يورينا العلامات
They betrayed covenants and yesterday cajoled me
At the ministry to show me signs.
ألا فقل لمن اغتروا بخطبته
لا تفرحوا واستعدوا للملمات
Say to those who were fooled by his speech
Do not rejoice and prepare for disasters.
