1. هناء له ثغر الهدى يتبسَّمُ

    وبشرى بها عَرْفُ الرضا يتنسَّمُ

    His smile's abode is guidance happiness,

    And through his pleasure contentment breathes relief.

  2. تبسم ثغر الثغر عنها بشارة

    فأَعْدَى ثغورَ الزهر منه التبسُّمُ

    The smile of smiles gives tidings of good news,

    So the flowers smile radiantly from him.

  3. ولا عجب من مَبْسمِ الزهر في الربا

    فللبرق من خلف السّحائب مَبْسِمُ

    No wonder the flowers smile in the meadow,

    For lightning through the clouds gives a smile.

  4. عنايةُ من أعطى الخليفة رتبةً

    عليها النجومُ النَّيِّراتُ تُحَوِّمُ

    A gift from the one who gave the Caliph status,

    The brilliant stars revolve around it.

  5. فمنه استفاد الملك كلَّ غريبةٍ

    تُخطَّ على صفح الزمان وتُرسَمُ

    From him every wondrous thing is learned

    That’s inscribed and depicted on time’s page.

  6. ومنه تلقى الهديَ كلُّ خليفةٍ

    كأنّهُمُ ممّا أفاد تعلّموا

    And from him every successor found guidance

    As if what predecessors offered they had studied.

  7. وكم من لواء في الفتوح نشرتَهُ

    وللرعب جيش دونه يتقدَّمُ

    How many a banner in conquest you have unfurled

    And for fear an army advances before it.

  8. فقل لملوك الأرض دونكمُ فقد

    أُعَلَّم ما لا زال بالنصر يُعْلَمُ

    So say to earth’s kings beneath you, you’ve lost

    For I’m still learning from him victories by name.

  9. تسامتْ به للنصر أشرفُ ذمةٍ

    لها من رسول الله عهد مُكرَّمُ

    Through him the most noble covenant was elevated,

    Which from Allah’s messenger has an honored pact.

  10. وكم من جهادٍ قد أقمتَ فروضَهُ

    يُزارُ به البيت العتيق وزمزمُ

    And how many incumbent battles you have waged

    By them the Ancient House and Zamzam are visited.

  11. وكم عزمةٍ جردت منها إلى العدا

    حساماً به داءُ الضلالةِ يُحْسَمُ

    And how much resolve you have girded against

    And how much money for Allah’s cause you have spent,

  12. وكم بيتِ مالٍ في الجهادِ بذلتَه

    وأقرضت منه اللهَ ما اللهُ يَعْلمُ

    Advancing Him loans only Allah knows the sum.

    And how many nights have you brought like nights

  13. وكم ليلةٍ قد جئت فيها بليلةٍ

    من النَّقع فيها للأسنّة أَنْجُمُ

    When stars for eloquent tongues shine bright.

    You stayed awake and Allah records their reward,

  14. سهرتَ بها والله يكتب أجرَها

    تُؤمِّن فيها الخلْق والخلق نُوَّمُ

    Securing people while people slept in ignorance.

    And over you flies a spread banner,

  15. وفوقك من سعدٍ لواءٌ مُشَهَّرٌ

    ودونك من عزم حسامٌ مُصمِّمُ

    Beneath you lies a resolved decisive sword.

    When you ready your steeds for a raid,

  16. إذا أنت جهزت الجياد لغارة

    فإن صباح الحي أغبرُ أقتمُ

    The dawn of war is darker and dimmer.

    So no matter how much a gray horse angles about,

  17. فَمن أشهبٍ مهما يكُرُّ رأَيتَهُ

    صباحاً بليل النقع لا يُتكتَّمُ

    You see it in the morning not hiding its darkness.

    A red horse whose ferocity the war has ignited

  18. وأحمرَ قد أذكى به البأسُ جذوةً

    إذا ابتل النقع لا يُتكتَّمُ

    Does not hide when the darkness intensifies.

    A blond horse, fury in its color and speed,

  19. وأَشقرَ أعدى البرقَ لوناً وسرعةً

    ولكنْ له دون البروق التقدُّمُ

    But lightning precedes it in advancement.

    A yellow horse the color of dusk and its tail

  20. وأصفرَ في لون العشيِّ وذيلُهُ

    وَلَوْنُ الذي بعد العشيةَ يُعلَمُ

    Is the color that comes after dusk is known.

    A black horse is like the night and the crescent moon a slit,

  21. وأدهمَ مثلِ الليل والبدرُ غُرّةٌ

    وبالشهب في حَلْي المقلَّد مُلْجَمُ

    Among its jewelry a pierced pearl.

    A gray horse inscribed like a parchment

  22. وأشهبَ كالقرطاس قد خطَّ صفحَهُ

    كتابٌ من النصر المؤزَر مُحكَمُ

    In decisive victory’s clear preserved script.

    How many warriors have you inscribed in combat

  23. ورُبَّ جلادٍ في جدالٍ سطرتَهُ

    يراعُ القنا فيه تخطُّ وترسُمُ

    With canes probing and inscribing as they line up!

    And the sword’s preacher stood over their heads

  24. وقام خطيب السيف فوق رُؤوسهم

    فأعجب منه أعجمٌ يتكلَّمُ

    Leaving the foreigner who understands astonished.

    So how many heads from torsos you have removed!

  25. فكم من رؤوس عن جسوم أزالها

    فأثكلَ منها كل باغٍ يُجَسَّمُ

    Every flowering meadow left barren.

    You made the swords’ tongues cry

  26. وزرقِ عيونِ للأسنة قد بكت

    ولا دمعَ إلاّ ما أسيل به الدمُ

    With no tears but what blood has spilled.

    The sword river drowns the enemy,

  27. ونهر حسامٍ كلما أغرق العدا

    تلقتهم منه سريعاً جهنّمُ

    Then Hell swiftly receives them.

    You made the Christians’ violence subside,

  28. فأصْلَيْتَ عُبَّادَ المسيح من الوغى

    سعيراً به يرضى المسيحُ ومريمُ

    Leaving Christ and Mary pleased.

    Clearer than the Trinity is your pure belief in One God,

  29. أبرَّ من التثليث بالله وحَدَه

    فمن يعتصمُ بالله فالله يعصِمُ

    He who holds to God, God will protect.

    Rouse swords that attack the enemy

  30. ونَبِّهُ سيوفاً ماضيات على العدا

    وخَلِّ جفونَ المرهفات تُهَوِّمُ

    And wake the watchful eyes to vigilance.

    And Allah for the fast has one departing

  31. ولله من شهر الصيامِ مُوَدعٌ

    على كلِّ محتوم السعادة يكرُمُ

    Honoring each destined with fortune.

    In it the mention from our Lord descends,

  32. تنزًّل فيه الذكْرُ من عنْدِ ربّنا

    فَيُبْدَأُ بالذكر الجميل ويُخْتَمُ

    Beginning with His beautiful name and concluding the same.

    And Allah has luminous nights in it

  33. ولله فيه من ليال منيرةٍ

    أضاء بنور الوحي منهن مظلمُ

    The dark was illuminated by His revelation.

    The clouds of tears have poured down their rain

  34. وصابت سحاب الدمع يُمْحَى بمائها

    من الصُّحف أوزار تُخطُّ ومأثمُ

    Erasing evil deeds inscribed and blamed.

    And Allah has the Night of Power in it that surpassed

  35. ولله فيه ليلة القدر قد غدت

    على ألف شهر في الثواب تُقَدَّمُ

    A thousand months in reward coming early.

    The angels of the seven heavens spend it until dawn greeting

  36. تبيتُ بها حتى الصباح بإذنه

    ملائكةُ السَّبعِ الطباقِ تُسلِّمُ

    With Allah’s permission and good tidings to come.

    Giving you the days of a prophetic year,

  37. وبشرى بعيد الفطر أيمن قادم

    عليك بمجموع البشائر يَقْدّمُ

    Esteemed in religion’s motto and emblem.

    And in devotions to God you have offered,

  38. جعلتَ قراه سنة نبويّة

    لها في شعار الدين قدر معظّمُ

    Arrows to fulfill requests set for them.

    In your every blessedness lies a joy,

  39. وفي دعواتٍ للإله رفعتَها

    تُسَّدُ منها للإجابة أَسهُمُ

    In your every handful, favors and boons.

    If you don’t pride in what you deserve,

  40. وفي كلّ يمنٍ من محيَّاك قرةٌ

    وفي كلِّ كفٍّ من نوالِكَ أَنعُمُ

    No one will see the lamp that gives light.

    None paved the way to Islam but a Caliph

  41. إذا أنت لم تفخرْ بما أنت أهلُه

    فلا أبصرَ المصباحَ من يتوسمُ

    Around whose kindness poetry’s pearls are strung.

    How many homes in verses I’ve populated with your name

  42. فما مهّدَ الإسلام غير خليفة

    على عطفه دُرُّ المحامد يُنظَمُ

    Spent the night with melodies from the friend in ecstasy.

    They're not homes but lofty mansions erectedTall ruling from the summits of heights.

  43. فكم بيت شعر قد عمرتُ بذكره

    فبات به حادي السُّرى يترنَّمُ

    It doesn’t harm them that their era came late,

    For their foundations made early last long.

  44. وَلسْنَ بيوتاً بل قصوراً مَشِيْدَةً

    تُطِلُّ على أوج العلا وتُخَيّمُ

    Since you are their patron and builder of the land,

    Every pride you claim to it is agreed to.

  45. وما ضرها أن قد تأخر عهدُها

    إذا طال مبناها الذين تقدّمُوا

    I'm a servant whom you made live in the garden of pleasureSo you remain in it forever enjoying delight.

    And I remain on holidays roaming its meadowsWhen its nobles celebrate I sing songs.

  46. وإذْ أنت مولاها وعامر ربعها

    فكلُّ فخار تدعيه مُسَلَّمُ

    As time goes may you always renew it, And may every day hold a feast and season.

    And may you remain for a thousand like it in fortune,

  47. أنا العبد قد أسكنته جنة الرضا

    فلا زلتَ فيها خالداً تَتَنَعَّمُ

    And may every day hold a feast and season.

    When I saw the hatchling had fallen short,

  48. ولا زلتُ في الأعياد ساجعَ روضها

    إذا احتفلت أشرافُها أترنّمُ

    And you are far too high for my praise to reach,

    I concluded my ode with a prayer, so here I am

  49. بقيتَ متى يبلَ الزمان تجُدَّهُ

    وفي كل يوم منك عيدٌ وموسمُ

    Tossing the dew in the palm of my hand and submitting.

  50. ودمتَ لألفٍ مثلِهِ في سعادةٍ

    وفي كل يوم منك عيدٌ وموسمُ

  51. ولما رأيتُ الفرخ جهدَ مقصِّر

    وأَنك أعلى من مديحي وأعظمُ

  52. ختمتُ ثنائي بالدعاء وها أنا

    أُقلِّبُ في كفِّ النّدى وأُسلِّمُ
