هذي العوالم لفظ أنت معناهُ

كلٌّ يقول إذا استنطقته اللَّهُ

These worlds are but a word, and you are its meaning,

Each says, when you make it speak, "God!"

بحر الوجود وفلك الكون جارية

وباسمك الله مَجراه ومُرساهُ

The sea of existence and the sphere of the universe flow,

And in your name, O God, is their course and anchorage.

من نور وجهك ضاء الكونُ أجمعُهُ

حتى تشيَّد بالأفلاك مبناهُ

By the light of your face the whole universe shone,

Until the spheres were built by its structure.

عرش وفرش وأملاك مسخّرة

وكلها ساجد لله مولاهُ

Throne and carpet, and angels made subservient,

All of them prostrate to God, their Master.

سبحان من أوجد الأشياء من عدم

وأوسع الكون قبل الكون نعماهُ

Glory to Him who originated things from nonexistence,

And expanded the universe before the universe with His bounty.

من ينسب النور للأفلاك قلت له

من أين أطلعتِ الأنوارُ لولاهُ

To one who attributes light to the spheres I said:

"From where did the lights rise, if not for Him?"

مولايَ مولايَ بحر الجود أغرقني

والخلق أجمعُ في ذا البحر قد تاهُوا

My Master, my Master, O sea of generosity, immerse me!

And all creation in this sea is lost.

فالفلك تجري كما الأفلاك جارية

بحرُ السماء وبحرُ الأرض أشباهُ

So the sphere moves as the spheres move,

The sea of the sky and the sea of earth are its likeness.

وكلهم نعم للخلق شاملة

تبارك الله لا تُحْصَى عطاياهُ

And all of them are blessings enveloping creation,

Blessed is God, His gifts cannot be counted.

يا فاتقَ الرّتق من هذا الوجود كما

في سابق العلم قد خُطت قضاياهُ

O you who untied the firm knot of this existence,

As was delineated in the precedence of knowledge its destinies.

كنْ لي كما كنتَ لي إذْ كنت لا عملٌ

أرجو ولا ذنبَ قد أذنبتُ أخشاهُ

Be to me as you were to me when I was without deeds,

Hoping, and without sins I feared committing.

وأنت في حضرات القدس تنقلني

حتى استقر بهذا الكون مثواهُ

And you in the retreats of holiness move me

Until I settle in this universe as my dwelling.

ما أَقبحَ العبد أن ينسى وتذكرُه

وأنت باللطف والإحسان تَرعاهُ

How ugly for a servant to forget and You remember him,

While You tend him with kindness and benevolence.

غفرانَك اللهُ من جهل بُليت به

فمن أفاد وجودي كيف أنساهُ

Forgive me, O God, the ignorance with which I was afflicted,

For who granted me existence, how can I forget Him?

منّي عليَّ حجاب لست أرفعُه

إلا بتوفيق هَدْي منك ترضاهُ

From me a veil I cannot lift,

Except with guidance from You I find pleasing.

فعدْ عليَّ بما عوَّدْتَ من كرم

فأنت أكرمُ من أَمَّلْتُ رُحماهُ

So favor me with what you have accustomed me to of generosity,

For You are more generous than I hoped for kindness.

ثم الصلاةُ صلاةُ الله دائمةٌ

على الذي باسمه في الذكر سَمَّاهُ

Then prayer, the eternal prayer of God,

Upon the one whose name in remembrance He elevated.

المجتبى وزناد النور ما قُدحتْ

ولا ذكا من نسيم الروض مراهُ

The Chosen One, the match of light never struck,

Nor a fragrance blown from the meadow's breeze passed over Him.

والمصطفى وكِمامُ الكون ما فُتقتْ

عن زُهر زَهْر يروقُ العين مرآهُ

And the Elect One, the veil of the universe never parted

From the flower of flowers that delights the eye of its viewer.

ولا تَفَجَّرَ نهرٌ للنهار على

در الدراري فغطّاه وأخفاهُ

No stream burst forth in the day for

The sea of seas that covered and concealed it.

يا فاتح الرسل أو يا خَتْمَها شرفاً

والله قدّس في الحالين معناهُ

O Opener of messengers, or O Seal of them in nobility,

God sanctified in both states His meaning.

لم أَدَّخِرْ غير حبِّ فيك أرفعه

وسيلةٌ لكريم يوم ألقاهُ

I hoarded nothing but love for You I raise up

As means to the Bountiful One the day I meet Him.

صلّى عليك إلهٌ أنت صفوته

ما طُيِّبتْ بلذيذ الذكر أفواهُ

God prayed upon You, You His chosen one,

No mouths have been sweetened with the delicious mention.

وعمَّ بالروْح والريحان صحبته

وجادهم من نمير العفو أصفاهُ

He included your companions with spirit and fragrance,

And gave them generously from the blowing of pardon.

وخصّ أنصاره الأَعْلَيْنَ صفوته

وأسكنوا من جوار الله أعلاهُ

He especially chose the best of your elite companions,

And settled them in the vicinity of God Most High.

أنصار ملته أعلام بيعته

مناقب شرفت أثنى بها اللَّهُ

The supporters of His religion, flags of His allegiance,

Virtues by which God praised.

وأيّدَ الله من أحيا جهادهُمُ

وواصل الفخرُ أُخراهُ وأُولاهُ

And God supported whoever revived their struggle,

And glory constantly accompanied its first and its last.

المنتقى من صميم الفخر جوهره

ما بين نصر وأنصار تهاداهُ

The culled from the essence of glory, its core,

What lies between victory and supporters, their accord.

العلم والحلم والإفضال شيمته

والبأس والجود بعض من سجاياهُ

Knowledge and forbearance, and generosity are its traits,

As are might and munificence, some of its qualities.
