لقد علم اللهُ أنّي امرؤٌ

أُجَرِّرُ ذيل العفاف القشيبْ

God knows well that I'm a man

Who drags the tail of chastity in rags

فكم غمّض الدهرُ أجفانه

وفازت قِداحي بوصل الحبيبْ

So often has time closed its eyes

As my cups gained the love of the beloved

وقيل رقيبُك في غفلةٍ

فقلت أخاف الإله الرقيبُ

It's said "Your watcher sleeps"

I said "I fear God, the Watcher"
