O lightning, flash between Marwah and Safa

Early, to give drink to the pilgrims whose faith has worn out

And guide the pilgrims to the landmarks of Mecca

For you have left them confused and halted

Beyond, a place for the Prophet to stand

Its lights refused to be eclipsed

And Maqam Ibrahim calls upon his Lord

His feet marked the mount where disciples stood

The House of the Curtains, its corner caressed

By the wings of doves, pleading and compassionate

And for one massacred, wrapped in his own blood

Two brothers, the best of them in Harrah of Yathrib

Laid down, while the other left behind in Iraq

Abandoned the Imam fearful of the sword

The Gloaters rejoiced not in slaying the successor

Nor did his death alleviate their misery

That martyrdom which cannot obscure or fade

Out of love for their grandfather, gentle and kind

My, how misguidance prevailed over guidance

In slaughtering al-Husayn, little care or hesitation!

And the flow of water ceased, no more to gush forth

The head of al-Husayn and his light, how they wavered

That was a comfort spot for the Prophet and sanctuary

A burning torch from the covers of the Book

Alas! A narration that perturbed my heart

It mentioned the Messenger and his family, so I yearned

Sweeps away grave sins, removing them completely

O Lord, I have been accustomed to loving them

So make that, apart from anything else, my preoccupation
