O you who wrong me so unjustly,
what is it about me that has roused your suspicion?
Each day, in shunning me,
you have one art after another.
By Him who has left me unable to do without
you, though He has enabled you to do without me:
do not embitter a life—you
are its utmost desire.
Do good whenever you are able,
but without holding it over anyone.
For none is more worthy of kindness
than one whom beauty has blessed.
