أيملك طرفي دمع عينيه قانيا
وقد حلت الأشواق منه العزاليا
Does the one who sheds my tears have any tears in his eyes
While yearnings have descended upon him in solitude
فهلا كففتم عن رحا كف أدمعي
أما قد علمتم أن فيه الدواليا
Why then do you not restrain my hand from shedding tears
Do you not know that therein lie remedies
كاني وقد أهدت لي الروح أدمعي
أنادم من تلك الجواري سواقيا
It is as if my tears were a soul gifted to me
I lament from those maidens' flowing springs
رضيت ببذل المال والروح في الهوى
فما لكم والروح روحي وماليا
I was content to give wealth and soul in passion
So why do you interject about my soul and money
فيا منزلا أقواه من أهله النوى
إلى أن غدا من ضعف جدى خاليا
O dwelling that hosts stronger than its family
Until he became empty of vigor in the morning
أبي الله لي السلوان عنك وعنهم
أمثلي يسلوكم إذاً لا أباليا
May Allah forbid me comfort without you and them
Should my like console you, I would not care
وعندي لكم ما تعلمون من الوفا
ووجد جديد لا يفارق باليا
And I have for you what you know of loyalty
And newly found never parts from my mind
يشاهدكم طرفي كأني حاضر
وإن كنت معكم في المودة باديا
My eyes see you as if I am present
And if I am with you in love, distant
أبيع رخيصاً إن سرى البرق مدمعي
ليسكن جأش بعدما كان غالياً
I sell cheaply if lightning flashes my tears
To settle anguish after once being expensive
لئن كان إسماعيل بالشوق قد رمى
فإن أبن إبراهيم قد كان رامياً
If Ismail in longing so threw
The son of Abraham had also been a thrower
إمام هدى يروي أسانيد فضله
فينشقها نشق الكعوب عواليا
The Imam of guidance quenching the thirst of excellences’ channels
Splitting them like the splitting of ankles’ fetters
هو الرأس والهادي لآل محمد
فلا زال للسرب الرسول هاديا
He is the head and guide for the family of Mohammed
So the messenger never ceases to guide the flock
مجالسه تشفى الصدور فمن يزغ
يرى الذل في هجرانه والدواهيا
His gatherings heal breasts so if one deviates
He will see humiliation in estranging him and prevention
له فطن تعدى الجليس فكم جلت
لذى حيره ذهنا وروته صاديا
He has a brilliance that surpasses the seated so oft
Perplexed by his intellect and sated by his guide
وكم من سقيم فهمه قد شحذنه
فاصبح ماض في الضريبة باريا
And how many feeble minds has he sharpened
Who became firm in doctrine though not formerly carrying
لقد زارني مشياً على بعد داره
فكيف تراني كنت لو كان جارياً
He visited me walking the distance of his house
So how do you see me had he been my neighbor
ولما أتى بالكتب منه رسوله
تناولت منها باليمين كتابياً
And when his messenger brought books from him
I took them with my right hand as my books
وضيعت رشدي إن تضوع ريحه
وما خلت أن المسك تهدى الغواليا
And I wasted my sanity if his winds blow astray
Musk is gifted to heights so how could it not
كتاب كريم منه أصبحت سامعاً
مقالا به يكبو الحسود ورائياً
A noble book from him I heard in the morning
Statements therein humble the envious behind me
أكرره درساً لا نقع غلتي
وأرويه ف يالنادى وما كنت راويا
I repeat it as a lesson so I do not slip
And I narrate it among callers though I was no narrator
ثنى لي على ملك يهزك مدحه
كأنك منه تستعيد المثانيا
He praised me a kingdom that shakes you with its praise
As if you regain vigor from it
لبوس لأخلاق الكرام جديدة
وملبسها حسنا وليست عواريا
Clothing virtue in a new dress
Beautifying it and not leaving it bare
هزبر سريع الأخذ ينصف سيفه
فتى جاءه يوم الكريهة شاكياً
Like a gray hair its taking is swift to judge its sword
A youth came to him complaining on an ominous day
ولم ير في قتلي مواضيه ثائراً
ولا في دم بالسيف أجراه واديا
He did not see my killing his pasture aroused
Nor a blood his sword spilled in a valley
فأن ابن إسماعيل بالفضل إن رمى
كمثل أبيه ليس يخطي مراميا
If the son of Ismail in merit so threw
He is like his father not missing his aims
وما زال يعطيني وما زلت باسطا
يميني إليه قابضاً ليساريا
And he never ceases to give me as I keep extending
My right hand to him though closing my left
إلى أن ملا بالمال كفى ولم يزل
نداه لكفي بعد ما فاض ماليا
Until it filled my palm, still pouring,
His help to my palm after my money overflowed
وأصلح حالا ذقت منه مرارة
بعيشي إِلى أن عاد كالعهد حالياً
And he rectified a state that tasted bitter to me
In my livelihood until it returned like my former condition
فليت الفلا حتى بدا لي وجهه
فأسعد فال يوم ألقاه فاليا
If only dawn shone until his face appeared to me
Favoring, the day I met him, fortuitous
فنحن لديه في رياض قد إعتدى
على النفس من لم يدن منهن جانيا
For we are in gardens that he encroached upon
No transgressor drawn near them
فمن لم يجد للمدح سوقا وأَمه
يجد برق جود للمدائح شاريا
Whoever does not find a market for praise and protection
Finds lightning generosity buying praises
أبا المرتضى خذها قواف جلوتها
لكم بل على الآعداء حقاً قواضيا
O son of Murtada, take them, their meters have matured
For you, but also truthfully over enemies, decisive
ترق معانيها ويجزل لفظها
ويلهى بمعناها الغريب الملاهيا
Its meanings sublime and its words weighty
And its strange meaning preoccupies the amused
