1. في اللهِ سبحانهُ عمن مضى خلفُ

    فلا ينل منك فرطُ الحزنِ والأسفُ

    In God the Glorious, for those who passed before

    Let not the excess of sorrow and regret afflict you

  2. ولا يهولنك من أمر تعاظمهُ

    فأي داجٍ لظلما ليس ينكشفُ

    And let not that which appears formidable appall you

    For what darkness does not get dispelled?

  3. الدهرُ بالناس لا يحرى إلى أمدٍ

    فإن جروا معه في غايةٍ وقفوا

    Time does not consider people for long

    If they move along with it, they stop at an end

  4. أحق شيءٍ بحسن الصبرَ نائبة

    لا بدّ منها وصرفٌ ليس ينصرفُ

    The best thing deserving of fine patience are misfortunes

    Inevitable, with no turning away

  5. وكلّما يرجى الانتفاعِ به

    فصرف ذو اللب فيه عمره سرفُ

    And everything from which benefit is expected

    The wise spend their lives striving for it

  6. لو كان يرجع شيئاً فائتاً حزنٌ

    كنابه من صروف الدهر ننتصفُ

    If something gone could come back, sorrow

    We would ransom it from the turns of fate

  7. لكنه الموت داءٌ لا دواء له

    وطالب مدرك ما عنه منحرفُ

    But death is an ailment with no remedy

    And the seeker of attainment turns away from it

  8. يروعنا الموتُ عظماً عند هجمتهِ

    وننكر الأمر حيناً ثم نعترفُ

    Death terrifies us greatly when it attacks

    And we deny the matter, then admit

  9. كشاة روعت سرباً فثاب لها

    رعباً وألهاه عنها الروضةُ الأنفُ

    It startled a flock, so it shivered

    From fear while the soft meadow diverted it

  10. والدهرُ مازال يبكينا ويضحكُنا

    بصرفهِ وعلى هذا مضى السلَفُ

    And time continues to make us laugh and cry

    With its turns, and so did past generations

  11. وخيرةُ الله لا تخفى مدارجُها

    فليس يدري الفتى من أين يقتطفُ

    And God's chosen ones, their ranks are not hidden

    The youth cannot know from where to pluck

  12. وربما كان مكروه الأمورِ به

    بالمرء ستر على محبوبه يقفُ

    And the hated among matters may contain

    A covering for the beloved he halts at

  13. راجع سلوك تسلى الناس قاطبةً

    فقد أقاموا على الأَحزان واعتكفوا

    Look at people's conduct altogether

    For they stood by sorrows and clung

  14. فلا ترى غير ذي قَلب به حرقٌ

    وغير ذى مقلةِ إنسانُها يكفُ

    So you see none but one with a burning heart

    And none but one whose eyelids a human hides

  15. لا غرو إن جزعوا من هول حادثةٍ

    كادت لها منهم الأصلاب تنقصفُ

    No wonder they panic at the horror of an accident

    That almost tore their loins apart

  16. وأنت بالرشد أولى والرجوع إلى

    ما يقتضيه العلا والمجد والشرفُ

    While you are more deserving of uprightness and returning

    To what intellect and glory and honor require

  17. إنّا إلى الله أما الخطب ليل دجى

    لكن بوجهكِ منه ينجلي السَّدفُ

    We belong to God. As for tribulations in the dark night

    Through your face radiance bursts forth from them

  18. نحنُ الفداء فمهما فّوقت نوبٌ

    سهماً فأرواحنا من دونِك الهدفُ

    We are ransoms. So no matter what misfortunes befall

    Our souls without you are the target

  19. ونحن قسمان منا البعض منتظرٌ

    لأن يفادِى به والبعض قد سلفوا

    And we are two groups, some of us waiting

    To be sacrificed for you and some passed on

  20. إذا مضى معشرٌ أنشأت غيرهم

    هذا يجيء وهذا عنك منصرفُ

    When a number passes away, He creates others in their place

    One comes and one turns away from you

  21. وأنت قطبٌ له الأفلاك دائرةٌ

    وبدر سعدك تمّ ليسَ ينكسفُ

    And you are a pole around which the spheres revolve

    And the full moon of your fortune never wanes

  22. من للزمان بأن يمحي خطيئته

    فإنه قادمٌ بالذنب معترفُ

    Who can ask time to erase his sins

    When he comes with confessed sins

  23. جرى على طبعه فيمن فداك به

    قدماً وما يتساوى الدّرُّ والصَدفُ

    It followed its nature with those who sacrificed themselves for you

    Steps and pearls are not equal to seashells

  24. فاسودّ زاهرُه وابيضّ ناظره

    وودّ لو أنه أودى به التلفُ

    So its bloom faded and its looks turned white

    And it wished it had perished

  25. يا أيها الملك الحاوي خلائفه

    مناقباً وصفت بالغي من يصفُ

    O King who your successors encapsulate

    Virtues described by the most eloquent describer

  26. يامن إذا قلت يا من لا نظير له

    لم تضح في صدقي الأقوال تختلفُ

    O You who when addressed “O You with no peer”

    No words in my sincerity differ

  27. لا تجزعنَّ فمن فارقت يلحقها

    في حضرة القدس في ظل الرضى

    Do not worry. Whoever you lost will join you

    In the presence of the Most Holy, in the shade of Pleasure

  28. في جنة الخلد في دار المقامة قد

    أضحت له غرفٌ من فوقها غرفُ

    In the eternal Garden, in the House of Dwelling

    Lofty chambers have become hers, above which are chambers

  29. يدعى إلى الله من حول الضريح لها

    في كل يوم وتتلى عندها الصحفُ

    She is called to God around her tomb everyday

    And the scriptures are read out at it

  30. فرضْ على الصبر نفساً ما بنبعتها

    في الخطب مهما غزا لينُ ولا قصفُ

    Force your soul to patience however much sorrow pierces it

    In calamity, however slight or strong

  31. واكفف عنان الأسى والحزن وانسهما

    فليس عندهما غوثٌ ولا نجفُ

    And restrain the path of anguish and grief and make them forget

    For they have no rescue or palms there

  32. فإن تذركت أياما مضين فقلْ

    في الله سبحانه عمن مضى خلفُ

    If some days have slipped by, then say

    “In God the Glorious, for those who passed before”
