حلفت يقظان مروج العنان

موقر الجاش جموح الجنان

I swore allegiance, vigilant are the meadows of glory

Honorable is he who is rash in his zeal

لا أظلم الدهر فقد سرني

وعشت من أحداثه في الزمان

Time has not wronged me, for I was delighted

And I lived the events of time

فإن تكن أيام الهوى خلت

فشان أيامي البواقي وشان

If the days of love are gone

My remaining days are glorious days

لقد تفيأت ظلا الضيا

وصد عن طاعتي العاذلان

I took shade under the light

And the blamers stopped obeying me

واستوقفت طرفي خصور الدما

وانتهضت عقلي حضور الدنان

And I detained my eyes on the beautiful gazelles

And my mind rose to the presence of beauties

أفتق جلد الليل عن صبحها

والصبح كالنار خلال الدخان

The night reveals its dawn

And the dawn is like fire amidst smoke

يسعى بها في سقطات الندى

أغن مفقود حواشي اللسان

It flows with it in the drops of dew

A melodious voice lost in elaboration

مروع المقلة طاوى الحشا

مؤنث الدل مريض البنان

Terrifying with kohl-lined eyes, chewing myrtle

Feminine in her figure, sick with separation

مخصر ينفر في اذياله

عن موجة يجذبها غصن بان

With trailing garments it walks proudly

Against a wave pulled by a bending branch

في يده شمطاء معسولة

ترفل في ملحفتي أرجوان

In her hand a sweet quince

Covered in purple silk

إذا طفا لؤلؤها خلته

ظلا على أرض من الزعفران

When its pearls shine

It casts a shadow on saffron ground

تذكرني أنفاسها سحرة

والليل والصبح طليقا رهان

Her breath reminds me of a sorceress

And the night and dawn are free bets

نشوة أنفاس الوزير الذي

أدرك ما شاء برغم الزمان

The delight of the breath of the minister who

Attained what he desired despite time

حسب العلا أن عليا لها

أن هدمت أركانها خير بان

It is enough for the high-minded that for them

If their pillars collapsed, it would be a good construction

له إذا الخطب دجى يقظة

كأنها هيبة نصل يمان

For him, if events become dark with vigilance

It is like the awe of a Yemeni sword

ورقدة توقظ جفن الردى

ونظرة ترمد طرف السنان

And a nap that awakens the eyelid of calamity

And a gaze that makes the eyelashes drowsy

مقبل الراحة ما صورت

كفاه إلا للندى والطعان

I came to rest after forming

His palm sufficed except for dew and spears

فالحزم والعزم له عدة

والمال والسيف له كالسنان

Prudence and resolve are his supplies

And money and swords are like his teeth

تلعب بالموت يداه إذا

مالعب الرعب بقلب الحنان

His hands play with death when

The hands of fear play with the heart of affection

يسفر وجه النصر عن إذا الس

يف بذيل القسطل الجحفلان

The face of victory reveals itself to be

Like the train of an honored caftan

له على كل مدى همة

عذراء تجرى والصبا في عنان

He has ambition for every extent

An untamed filly running while the breeze holds the rein

يافلك الأمة ذر بالذي

تهوى فقد دان لك المشرقان

O star of the nation, leave the one

You love alone, for the two easts have submitted to you

نالت أماني على بعدها

منك يد لم تخل منها مكان

My hopes from you exceeded

Any place you did not touch with your inescapable hand

طالت يدي منك بمستأسد

إقباله يصحب عمر الزمان

My hand reached out to you with

Good luck accompanying the times

وانقاد من حبك لي طائعاً

كل جموح الرأس صعب العنان

And every difficult fiery steed

Yielded to loving you

أرضعتني ثديا فحسبي إذا

ما حسن لي منه عروف اللسان

You suckled me milk so it suffices me

When the tongues speak well of me

وكدت أن أرضع ورام العدى

أن يفطم في منه رأى العيان

And I almost sucked poison when the enemy

Wished to wean it before all eyes

وفوفوا نحوى سهام الردى

فكنت ترسى والتيار اللسان

And they brought down upon me the arrows of calamity

But you were my shield against the torrent

فصال فيهم منك لي ضيغم

زئيره يشحذ شم الرعان

So salvation came from you against them

Its roar sharpening the hearing of the herdsmen

كأنها الأرض إذا ساءها

مدحوة في تلعب الصولجان

As if it is the land when it rages

Stirred up by the play of swords

واليوم قد خيل إني لهم

فريسة تمتد فيها البنان

And today it seemed as if I were to them

Prey with the swords stretched out toward it

ورجفه وخوفه راكنا

إليك كاس الجأش ثبت الجنان

But its tremor and fear are stable

Because of you the cup of zeal is firmly held

وحاولوا أن يطفئوا ناره

بل كذب المغرور منهم ومان

And they tried to extinguish its fire

But the deluded liar among them refused

لازلت ترعى العز في غبطة

ما حنت النيب بسفحي عمان

You still watch over glory in joy

Ma’an never bowed to it
