1. قناة العز في تلك الرماح

    وبين مضارب البيض الصفاح

    The channel of glory is in those spears

    And between the tents of the pure white

  2. ومن طلب المعالي بالعوالي

    إقامته على درك النجاح

    Whoever seeks the heights with heights

    His dwelling is on the verge of success

  3. وما خطب العلا بالسيف كفو

    فكان سوأه اولى بالنكاح

    And the courage did not gain glory by the sword

    So its worst was more deserving of marriage

  4. نكاح لا شهادة فيه ترضى

    بغير المشرفية والرماح

    A marriage in which no testimony satisfies

    Other than gallantry and spears

  5. ملاك ملاكه مهج الأعادي

    وسبع العرس فيه دم الجراح

    A master whose essence wounds the enemies

    And the lion of the wedding in it is the blood of wounds

  6. ومن رام العلا فليمش فيها

    كمشى الناصر الملك السماح

    And whoever desires glory should walk in it

    As Al-Nasir the generous king walked

  7. تولى ما عناه ولم يقله

    عداة الحرب أبطال الكفاح

    He assumed what he intended and did not say it

    The enemies of war, the heroes of struggle

  8. بعزم كالقضا المحتوم ماض

    يرد بواعث القدر المتاح

    With determination like inevitable fate proceeding

    Repelling the motives of available destiny

  9. وان العزم أقتل للاعادي

    وأمضى ما يكون من السلاح

    Determination is most deadly to enemies

    And most effective of weapons

  10. طوى بخيوله بلد الأعادي

    كطي صحيفة رفعت براح

    He folded the countries of enemies with his horses

    As folding a paper raised by the wind

  11. وصبح نقعها وادي زبيد

    فحل بأهلها سوء الصباح

    And the morning of their valley Zabeed awoke

    So its people met an evil morning

  12. وأهدت لابن مهدى البلايا

    وقد سبحت يديه على سباح

    And it gifted to the son of Mahdi afflictions

    As his hands swam over the swimmer

  13. وما بعد ببعدان عليها

    فعرضته بها للاجتناح

    It was not far from him so I exposed it to him

    For ravaging

  14. وما السيرى حين يهم شيء

    فيذكر في فساد أو صلاح

    The blind man, when he angrily wants something

    Mentioning corruption or reform

  15. تعدى طوره المسكين جهلا

    وأبدي وجه مرفوع وقاح

    Exceeds his limit, poor out of ignorance

    And shows an arrogant and shameless face

  16. وانفق كسبه في غير شيء

    وكسب أبيه في علل الاداح

    And spends his earnings and his father's earnings wastefully

    On the illnesses of the wastrel

  17. فقد أمسى يمد يديه حزنا

    على صرف المنقشة الصحاح

    So he ended up extending his hands in sorrow

    Over spending engraved and good coins

  18. خلت عنها يداه فإن بكاها

    فليس عليه فيها من جناح

    His hands are empty of them, so if he cries over them

    There is no blame upon him for that

  19. يذكره بها عهد قديم

    وكد في الغدو وفي الرواح

    It reminds him of an old covenant

    And effort in the mornings and evenings

  20. وما اجتمعت له وأبيه الا

    بتقتير وأخلاق شحاح

    And only stinginess and miserly morals

    Gathered for him and his father

  21. يهون المال قدرا عند ملك

    يجود به بصدر ذى انشراح

    Wealth becomes insignificant to a king

    Who gives generously with a cheerful heart

  22. تجود به يد تجبى إليها

    خراج الأرض من كل النواح

    The hand that collects from all regions

    The land's taxes gives generously

  23. يهز الجود عطفيه فيسخو

    ويبذله بشوق وارتياح

    Generosity shakes his shoulders so he gives freely

    And grants with passion and comfort

  24. فقد أصحاه من سكر الأماني

    عزيمة ضيغم وافي السلاح

    He has indeed awakened from the intoxication of wishes

    With the determination of Thigham, loyal in arms

  25. وبان له وقد أصغي استماعا

    مزيات الصهيل على النباح

    And it became clear to him, as he listened closely

    The advantages of neighing over barking

  26. ولما شم ريح الموت أضحى

    يراسل في الرضى والاصطلاح

    And when he smelled the scent of death he spent

    Corresponding in consent and reconciliation

  27. إذا سمعت به الأعداء طارت

    لذكراه باجنحة الرياح

    When the enemies heard of him, they flew

    At the mention of him on the wings of the winds

  28. كريم لا تزال له عطاياً

    تنادى الوفد حي على السماح

    A generous one, whose gifts never cease

    Calling the delegation, long live the clement!

  29. عروسا من بنات الفكر زفت

    إليك بملك عقد لا سفاح

    A bride of the daughters of thought was brought to you

    With the bond of a marriage without any shame

  30. من الغيد الحسان أتتك تزهو

    ببهجتها على اللكن القباح

    She came to you from the beautiful, handsome ones

    Showing off her radiance over the ugly ones

  31. فقابلها بوجهك فهو وجه

    يضئ بهاؤه وجه الصباح

    So receive her with your face, for it is a face

    That illuminates with its brilliance the face of morning
